Tombs of the Lords both Old & New

You know, it has always puzzled me why there were no mention of the final resting places of the Old Lords & the new ones....

Berek revered as a icon yet no tomb or mausoleum for people to come and pay their respects.... same with Damelon & Loric ( I think Kevin would somehow not have a huge fan club in the Land!).

Only mention ofthe new lords I think was in the Illearth War where TC found out that Prothall had resigned the High Lordship and had gone back to his home in the Northron Climbs..

In LFB when Mhoram's parents died they were cremated..... I wonder if this was a custom of the Land in how they bury their loved ones?

I believe that old lords were cremated according to what happened at Soaring woodhelvin with Lords Tamarantha and Variol-but now when i think of it Kevin came back but i dont think he had a body to come back to like those Satansfist called back from the dead during the siege of Revelstone.

It could be they had no graves or Tombs rather they used song and stories and artwork to preserve the memory.

I'm guessing that if the Lord's weren't cremated they were likely buried with no marker, preferring the notion of returning to the Earth they loved so dearly but raising no monument in an appropriate sign of humility.

You said what I was searching for words to say, TOM.
My thoughts exactly.

They lived their lives for the Land.
They humbly returned themselves to it when their deeds were done.

Exactly my thoughts too.

I'm also curious as we know that the giant Grimmand Honiscrave was buried in the Hall of Gifts at Revelstone (Nom built a cairn over his body) - any suggestions as to where TC might be buried as last mentioned in WGW his body was taken from Mt Thunder by the First & Pitchwife??

I have no reason for backing this up.
But I have always thought he was taken to one of two places.

Andelain, if the Earthpower incarnate there would allow burial.

Or the site of his caamora for the dead Giants, as it was a place of healing.

But I really have no idea...

I cant believe i have never once wondered that in all these years...

I think Andelain would be the best spot, I'm guessing he is buried next to a burned out tree stump with the Krill sticking out of it like Excalibur.

I wonder if Pitchwife or the First possibly kept the Krill or returned it to Revelstone, might have even just left it in the Stump that used to be Caer Caveral.

Andelain is a good choice. However, if you consider when and where he died, his remains may be high on the slopes of Mount Thunder, or may be in Mount Thunder -- perhaps even Kiril Threndor. Giants do prefer to work with stone. If they're going to carry him far, Revelstone is another option. I cannot see them burying Covenant in Coercri, tho ... that's tomb enough for the Unhomed.

Covenant's last resting place may play some part in the remainder of the Last Chronicles. The fact that it has not been specifically addressed suggests there may be something critical or at least important about it.
Just speculation on my part.

BTW I think Andelain is pretty much the only choice I would make if I were given the task of burying him. Anyone (especially the Giants) would have known of his love of that region of the Land.

Hmm... so I wonder, if Covenant was buried instead of say cremated,

personally I believe that TC was buried in Andelain - maybe by the stump that was the remains of Caer-Caveral

Do we 'know' whether Giants bury their dead? They didn't bury Honniscrave - that was Nom. Even more than the Lords, they revere their fallen heroes in songs and stories.

The other thing about Andelain is the Dead. Why would you bury someone and create a monument to them when you can practically visit them in Andelain?

And i doubt that it will be significant - or even mentioned in the last Chrons.

I think SRD intentionally left this one alone as not to get into other concepts and philisophical expectations.

Until the Law of Death was broken, there were no Dead at all...not even in Andelain, right?

Correct. But Covenant died 3500 years after that.

Yes, but after LA went back to her world, and Pitchwife and the First went back Home, who would be interested in visiting TC's grave/tomb/whatever?

Hollian didn't seem like him much, and she and Sunder would be busy raising their baby and going around the Land doing their renaissance thing...

IMO TC was buried in Andelain. It was the last rement of the Land that TC loved. It was the only place that remained unbroken from his first visit. Linden saw Pitchwife pick up his body before she returned to her world. I think the giants would have buried TC in Andelain out of respect for him. They knew how much he loved being there

Maybe I wasn't paying close attention, but didn't they say Kevin came back as a "shade?" Not in a body? I think he's also referred to as a specter. Yea, my guess is fire. Dust to dust, ashes to ashes......

If Kevin's Ritual was anything like Trell's, then he was most likely eventually incinerated by it, hence his body would have been lost.
