Anyone up for a D&D campaign?

Post by Nathan »

Hello all!

I'm finding myself a little bored over the summer. Everyone has gone home and nobody's around, so I'm considering running a Dungeons & Dragons (3.5 edition, none of this 4th ed mumbo jumbo) campaign.

If I can find a few people (3, 4, 5, maybe even 6) who are interested in playing a campaign over the summer, that would be awesome! Experience is not necessary (either with D&D or roleplay games in general) as I can help you create a character and explain the rules. It's quite easy to learn and I can provide information from source books where necessary.

This campaign will be pretty balanced between combat and roleplay, so if you don't like one of those things there'll be plenty of the other to balance it out.

I'd like to run it using a combination of voice chatting and forum posts. I know schedules can interfere with this kind of thing but I'm very flexible at the moment and will be for a couple of months.

If anyone's interested please reply in this thread and PM me as well (so I get an email sent to me. I may forget to check this).

This could also be a great way to get to know some of you a bit better!

I hope to hear from a load of you :)

Alas, I can't do games that require real-time interaction of any sort.

Real-time doesn't work so good for me, (although our time zones are similar), but if you wanna do it by forum, posts, I'm interested.

Sounds like fun but, similar to what Av says, its only workable if it goes primarily by Forum postings. I have an 8x5, and the UK/US time difference might make things unwieldy. Still interested, though.
I love RPGs, but haven't played very much 3rd edition or later, so that would be new for me.
And it might force me to invest in a microphone/cam...

Luci, you can upgrade from three to four games - you just have to try.
School, shmool - At the end, you just end up educated. Wouldn't you rather be entertained? :D

I can run it mainly as a forum thing. Those who are able to can have side quests in real time if they want to (otherwise they can be run in forum too).

Anyone who wants to take part please send me a pm and tell me what kind of character you'd be interested in playing. We'll be starting at level 1. I'll give everyone more details once I have an idea of who might be interested!

The following people have expressed an interest:

DukkhaWaynhim

Avatar says he'll be playing a rogue, Menolly is planning a Sorceror. That means we'll need at least one melee style character and someone who can cast healing spells (unless you want to live dangerously!).

The core rules are available online here: www.d20srd.org

Feel free to ask questions about anything you don't understand or anything you'd like clarified. If anyone needs help creating a character then I'll be happy to assist.

No need to create backstories as of yet. I'll have you do those once I've revealed the location and nature of the initial adventure!

You gonna ask Vain to create a new sub-forum for it?

I'll try to get a sub-forum sorted out.

Please could everyone create their character using this generator:

www.pathguy.com/cg35.htm

(or if you've already created it, run through the generator anyway. I'd like everyone's character sheets to be in the same format)

Uh...ok...done. Hope I did it right.

And what happens when we level up?

Re-input all existing stuff, then increase the level?

Er...I don't have much to do for the next couple of months, so I might give this a try. I have a vague familiarity with D&D mechanics, though I've never actually played.

Your character sheet looks OK Av! I'll show you how to level up the character when we come to it. You could re-input everything but it'd be quicker just to update the appropriate parts.

Whichever way you prefer really!

You're welcome to join in, Covjr!

The characters we have already are:

Cleric,
Ranger,
Rogue,
Sorceror.

Please pick a class which hasn't already been done!

I'll have to cut it off at 5 people, I don't want too big a party, or it'll become unmanagable!

Oops...guess I shouldn't have pimped it in Gen Disc. :D (You did suggest a max of six though, in case anybody else is keen...)

Nice to have you aboard Cj. It'll be fun. :D

As I told Nathan in a pm, I don't want to hold the game up. That was a problem in Paolo's game, eh? Besides, I said I'd play Purgatory before Nathan started this thread. Between that and Pantheon, should Pantheon even continue (*gives Xar a stern look*), I'll be tapped out anyway.

Ah well...maybe somebody else can take your place. You were fun to play with in Shadowlands though. (Haha, I was just reading some of those old threads...good memories. :D )

Anyway, Yay! We got a whole forum. :D

Awesome.

(Oh, I suggest editing the topics of the Character and Inventory threads, to make them [campaign name] Inventory Thread instead.)

I'm with Av...
I was really looking forward to you playing a Ranger, Fist.

:(

But, I'll anticipate your Purgatory character all the more then.
