When you think back to the Albums that have meant the most to you over the course of your life, how many were soundtracks?

"Meant the most"?

None.

"That I've enjoyed immensely" or "Reminds me of a certain time"? Several.

Prior to the DVD and How The West Was Won, the soundtrack for The Song Remains the Same was a staple.

Way back when, I recall playing the Vision Quest soundtrack quite a bit as well.

Soundtracks that have been a feature in some part of my life would be from Quadrophenia, Rocky Horror Picture Show, and Trainspotting.

Another that I really enjoy, from Jesus Christ Superstar.

The Song Remains the Same is great. I still haven't heard the new remaster. But I don't really think of concert movies as "soundtracks"... Yessongs would fall in the same category, for a long time it was my favorite album. But since they're concert movies I don't look at them like soundtracks.

Other than that, I don't know that any were that important. Maybe a certain song from a movie (like Billy Jack). Or 'Remember Me' at the end of Troy... 'Into The West' from LOTR. I'm sure there are lots of other songs I can't think of right now.

Standing In The Shadows of Motown, Spinal Tap and That Thing You Do are the only ones I own that I consider true soundtracks. I have Quadrophenia, but didn't even know it was a movie. I plan on getting Birdy because Peter Gabriel did it. I remember liking the soundtracks to Roadie and Heavy Metal, too.

I haven't seen A Walk on the Moon, but that's an impressive soundtrack, no doubt! Almost all great stuff... "Today" is a beautiful song.

I actually collect soundtracks and they're the thing I listen to most frequently. But I collect instrumental ones rather than song compilation ones. I use them to write to, to dream to, to muse to. Some of my particular favourites (ones which have songs on them that I associate :

Gattaca - Michael Nyman
The Piano - Michael Nyman
Batman Begins - Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard
The Mission - Ennio Morricone
Out of Africa - John Barry
LOST (tv series) soundtrack season 1: Michael Giacchino
Battlestar Galactica season 1: Bear McCreary
Crouching Tiger-Hidden Dragon: Tan Dun, Yo-Yo Ma

...I dunno. There's more. I have far too many in my collection (probably almost 200).

In the category of soundtracks I have great memories of and played to death in their day:

Ghostbusters

and

Top Gun

I played both of those until they fell apart.

Xanadu

What? Don't look at me like that.

I also really dug the Ghostbusters soundtrack.

I'd like to add to that:

Footloose
The Lost Boys
Rocky4
Princess Bride
Jesus Christ Superstar (the play not the movie!)
Sound of Music
