I loved this as a kid...

(if this in not acceptable, feel free to delete)

I loved the PBS television show, The Electric Company as a kid. And by kid, I mean a teen, even though it was aimed at a much younger audience. But, I was a teen when it came out; shoot, I was 12 when Sesame Street launched, and I watched that too. ;)

The following link takes you to a site to help nominate a project to bring The Electric Company back with funding by American Express. To nominate, you need to register as a guest with the site, which is free. You don't have to be a card member to nominate. Deadline to nominate is August 31st.

I suspect registering at the site may generate some SPAM, but I am willing to take that chance for myself.

Thanks for considering...

I used to watch that show all the time, along with ZOOM.

I think that may have been the first 'rap' I ever knew...

"Write ZOOM
Zee-double Oh-Em..."

Loved ZOOM, never saw (or even heard of) The Electric Company. Were they similar?

No...

Just on around the same time.

Sesame Street was for toddlers through preschoolers.
The Electric Company was aimed at elementary.
Zoom was for tweens.

You probably saw the redone Zoom from a few years ago.

Here's several samples of The Electric Company vignettes. The first one features a young Morgan Freeman and Rita Moreno (I think?).

Easy Reader
"I like Fish Food..."
C is for CA
Opening credits (the one I remember)
and I'll finish with another Morgan Freeman one...
Count Dracula?

There are others on the side bar to each video.

I was an avid watcher, too. Thanks for communicating this!

Ahhh, then my first exposure to 'rap' was in the 60's with Cool McCool.
"C ... C double O ... C double O L ... Cool McCool!"
[I heard that the original version of "C to the double O to the L ... Cool McCizzool!" was scrapped due to being too edgy. ;) ]

Looks like a show I would have enjoyed as a kid, if it had been on. Although that last clip with Morgan Freeman as Dracula was kind of creepy.
