What the hell has Akroyd been up to for the past 15 years? Maybe I was too young to see his embarrassing downfall, all I remember is Blues Brothers, Ghostbusters, Trading Places and then nothing.

News has been floating around about this for a few years. Ackroyd made a comment recently about it, and the studio has hired writers, but.....

It hasn't happened in the past because of money. The actors all want(ed) a big chunk of the film's gross. Add to that the fact that it's an old franchise, then stir in that of the films' 4 principle actors, only Bill Murray can be remotely classified as a star anymore. And Murray's gone off the deep end redefining himself as a "serious actor".

I love Ghostbusters. It's a great movie. I'm thrilled that I'm dating a woman named Dana so I can use a ton of Peter Venkman's lines on her. Ghostbusters II wasn't nearly as good.

I'm sorry, but I don't think there's any way a decent Ghostbusters III can be made 20 years later.

I dunno, get a good enough script and anything is possible. The garbage, ouber-marketed, uber-merchandised Hollywood shitpot is thankfully going out of style.

Maybe we can get another Casino Royale, Batman Begins, or Rambo 4. The summer has been full of high profile, actually extremely good summer movies. I actually cant think of a blockbusting stinker this summer (Except for Death Race I guess), I think that says something.

They need to be thrown back in time.
Every couple of centuries until they're chasing mummys in Egypt.
Show that the Sphinx was actually made to look like Dan Aykroyd or something.
That they caused the fall of Atlantis.
Something totally epic in scale and scope.
Or at least have Elisha Cuthbert in it!

This can only be bad. It was a miracle that Indiana Jones 4 was passable. The more revivals of old franchises there are, the more of them with be awful.

The sequel was definitely bad. Now that I think about it, the original wasn't really that good.

It's pretty slow at times.
My kids were bored a lot at times.

They liked the second better.

It is a classic, but it's pretty patchy. I think it's classic more because no-one else has done it than because it's hilarious.

GBIII has no chance of being the surprise hit that GBI was. GBII wasn't bad (IMHO) but it suffered a bit from "been there, done that". If GBIII gets made it has a built in audience like Indiana Jones or Star Wars but fans will learn quickly if it's possible to go home again. I'm afraid GBIII will be a $170 million dollar film that will net $40mil in it's opening week but then finish it's run at about $100mil thus making all the effort a total waste of time.

Honestly, everyone who ever watched the movie as a kid is grown up now. No one below the age of 14 or so has probably even heard of it. (Unless their parents made em sit down and watch it.) It might be a good call to go for an r-rating. It would be pretty fresh.

Dan Akroyd also made a cameo appearance in the movie Evolution which started off ( loosely said ) okay, then it slipped into a big vat of giant anus jokes.

I wonder if Sigourney Weaver will sign on with this ? She was pretty funny in Galaxy Quest.

It was on TV the other day and I watched it. There are moments that still hold up, but yah, it's not the laugh fest it once was for me either.
