The 2009 Induction nominees are:
Jeff Beck
Chic
Wanda Jackson
Little Anthony and the Imperials
Metallica
Run-D.M.C.
the Stooges
War
Bobby Womack
I really love the Stooges. I hope they get in. Metallica I don't care for particularly but do respect. Run-DMC...what the hell?
Thoughts?

Jeff Beck, The Stooges, and War are hard to argue with. As much as I love Run-DMC, it's the "Rock and Roll" Hall of Fame, and they ain't rock 'n roll.
I despise post-Burton Metallica, but I suppose they sort of have to get in.
I think we've discussed the inductions over the last couple of years and we're all pretty much in agreement that the RaRHoF pretty much sucks.

well it's about time
jeff Beck got in! I think he was one of those really influencial guitarists that everyone in the biz knew and respected, but never got the public eye (ear).
Now where is Rush dammit!

No Rush, no Blue Oyster Cult.
RaRHoF sucks.

It does. But once you get in it's a sign of I guess you could say institutional respect. So I think it has some relevance. As for Rush and prog bands in the Hall in general, my prog-fan friend alleges that the Hall's ties with Rolling Stone which he says is anti-prog is the reason for their absence.

True, it is a sign of institutional acceptance, but I still question its relevance. Chic was certainly an influential disco band, and both Tony Thompson and Nile Rodgers deserve kudos in the RaRHoF for their work outside of Chic. But Chic has no business being inducted.

They keep passing Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler over for the likes of RunDMC and Grandmaster Flash. That is just one example of a band/artist that has been passed over, Dire Straits should already be there just on the merits of Brothers In Arms alone. Come to think of it, are The Allman Brothers in there? If not, that is a real travesty.

very true. It is generally known that Rolling Stone magazine is quite anti-prog. Just check out any 'greatest' list or book they publish and there will be almost no mention of prog -- if it is there it is in the basement....

From the very first inductions, I've never had much respect for the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. Seemed like right from the first it was more about rock n roll politics and who the organizers liked than about who fans thought deserved to be in.
One example is the induction of Fleetwood Mac where Mic Fleetwood was allowed to choose which band members would be included and left out Bob Welch while including others from the same FM era, due to personal differences.
