Just found this today.
Outstanding!
At first I thought "the Balrog is too big"
And then I thought "no way, that makes it more awesome, more terrifying and shows just how powerful Gandalf truly was.

It's cool.

I converted the '76, '77, and '78 calendars to wallpaper, and I rotate them every 30 min with a wallpaper changer too I wrote.

So I am partial to this, even if the balrog isn't too cool and has incorrect wings.

My whole life I was in the "Balrogs have wings" camp.
But reread that chapter last night (for the hundredth time).
It's so clear to me now.
In the beginning Tolkien says "like wings".
It's a simile.
He establishes that there are no wings but rather darkness that looks *LIKE* wings.
So when he mentions wings again in the next paragraph (or two) it's referring back to that same simile.
That's why the Balrog falls.
No freaking wings!
All the other excuses for the reasons why the Balrog fell from the limited space in the tunnels to everything else is all conjecture.

Ah....clarity.
