I used to play Foosball a lot. When I was a kid in Skating rinks, game rooms, and the bowling alley and then when I was older more often than not in pubs and of course at home. Loved playing but two things kept me from really digging in and enjoying it. 1. None of my good friends really enjoyed playing the game. Oh sure they'd play but not with anything like real enthusiasm. (dAN always preferred playing chess. Probably because he knew he would kick my ass in seconds.) 2. Whenever I did get a chance to play more often than not the opponent felt "spinning" wildly was a valid way to play the game. That always drives me nuts.

Anyway I ran across the link above and the "shockwave" type version of the game is pretty cool. Nothing beats the real thing but it's nice to fool with on your lunch break.

I've hated it ever since I worked for an arcade game company in London...you know how heavy those damn things are? Moving them was awkward hell. Them and Pinball Machines. Hated those damn things.

I worked for an amusement center/park back in the 80s and I spent most of my time working in and around the game room. I had to move every one of those machines (standup video games, sit down video racing games, pinball machines and of course foosball) on a weekly basis and I helped unpack and setup new games as they came in. The ones I really hated were the sit down racing games. I also agree about the pinball machines. The foosball tables were indeed heavy and awkward to manage.

Didn't affect my appreciation for playing them though.

Well, wasn't a fan of them even before, so it wasn't taking away from any pleasure I might have associated with them.

(Sit down racers...just as bad...and those (mid-90's) skiing games...and the one with the excercise bike built into it...*shudder*)

Thanks for the link, aTOMiC. It's a cool little game, though it's taking me a bit to get used to using the mouse for it.


I love foosball as well - played quite a lot through college. Fortunately my roomates were also very into it - more so than I, cause I was one of the weaker players in the house. We had an old, run down table in our apartment that we all spent hours on. We'd have all night tournements, and the like. Good stuff. Thanks for the link and reviving old memories.

Oh, and I share your dislike for "spinners". Totally unacceptable play.

I'm glad you liked it MR. Getting used to the mouse play is really tough. I left my goalie upside down a few times giving the computer an easy popper. It would probably take hours of play to become familiar enough with the game to give the computer a run for it's money.
