Anyone else getting the phone call? It is like nearly three times a day for me. No matter how many times I try to get off this list I just get called anyways. No one answers if you stay on so I don't get the monetary motive for this annoyance.

I want to know who the SOB is that calls only when I'm on the Internet and then hangs up when I answer. This has been going on for about...heeeey!!

I get those calls, look out my window to see my 22 year old Oldsmobile, and say "No shit, Sherlock!"

I've been telling them that I'm housesitting for the owners, and they'll be back in a few months from vacation. Seems to be working nicely. No one's called in a while.

I quit answering a while ago; I just let Xenon (I think that's what Luci calls her) answer it.

I take it there's no telephone preference service, or equivalent, in the US? It's not perfect, but it's way better than nothing!

Stone, the US does have a "do not call" registry, and I'm on it, and I *still* get those calls.
In Virginia, it's illegal for firms with which you have no prior business relationship to use a recorded message to contact you. Right after that law went into effect, I received a string of calls that opened with a trumpet fanfare, then promised me that they would mail me a fabulous prize if I gave them my contact info at the beep. When the beep came, I told them that what they were doing was illegal in Virginia and if they called again I'd report them to the state attorney general's office. Never got another call.

Our new car's warranty has a stipulation about service checks and maintenance being done every so miles driven and we were almost up to the second deadline when we got the call for the first time. We freaked and called the dealership right away and they told us that everyone had received that type of call. I think the last one I hung up on was #42...

I get letters about car warranties all the time. Wouldn't know about phone calls, because if it's a number I don't recognize I let it go to the answering machine.

Ditto. We screen 'em all. The incoming greeting on our answering machine even states that explicitly. I don't have the time, energy or interest.
