From sketch to finish. The Lurker's attack. Wounded Land.

I thought I would place a post with a couple pages on how I create a comic page for the Wounded Land. These pages are done on 8.5 x11. It takes about three songs for completion. I usually start off with an outline sketch...

After that I will usually start with another blank page and trace over my first sketch by adding the finer details and fixing the problems from the first sketch. This is all done with ink. I usually never use pencils. Only on paid (which is never) projects will I use my beloved blue lines. :P

Image

Then it gets tricky because I have to use an outdated computer in order to scan this last page onto a flash drive; this gets calmly walked over to my MAC and I get busy on cutting and pasting. I will add photoshop effects like mimicking Linden's face, so it's complete. I don't have to draw it and screw it up. I can use the computer for that. Text and bubbles are added and whallah something to run off to the KW giggling with excitement.

I usually add color, but its late so maybe tomorrow. Anyways, I thought I would share my tricks and laziness.

Thanks for sharing your incredible talent with us. I always wondered what steps artists took when doing something. I know it's probably different for everyone, though.

Menolly, your avatar is SWEET!!!

Is this a paid project or an act of love? And you are very talented by the way.

Act of love. I wish I could get paid for drawing, but SRD and KW and a few others get this stuff for free because I wanna see it also, as a fan. Thank you for the compliment.

I think this is the first time we see on this board. Anyway, I want to say that your work is awesome. It utilizes the comic medium very effectively.

I know the feeling that a labor of love gives... :) Thumbs up!

Are you planning on producing an entire comic book? I mean, we'll forgive you if it's not chronological. It would be cool even if it was only one segment of the story. You rock!!!!! :D

Thank you for the compliment. Yes, I'm slowly working on SRD's vision in a comic book ( Fan Made no backing what so ever) fashion. I have a one year old, so you can imagine just how much time I have to actually draw anything.
I am insanely toiling on three projects between 1 am to 3 am in the morning LOL. One is a Children's Book, the other is a complete storyboard for Aliens Vs Transformers, and the last is SRD Wounded Land. Most of my SRD's work creeps onto the KW album, this forum, and from time to time on my own Blog and online portfolio.

*holding out hope for some additional Pern-themed works one day in the future*

Although what you have shared so far has been more than I ever dreamed of seeing. :D

Pern is a must, but I think we better keep that discussion to the Sci-Fi Forum ;)
