Top Chef Season 5

Anybody else besides me watch this show? I watch it religiously.

The new seasons starts on the 12th. If you want to check out the bios, they're up on the Top Chef website.

Anybody want to make some early predictions? Right now, I'd say Ariana, Fabio (really?), and Richard. Maybe Jill.

I'm glad Ted Allen's gone, but I guess them getting rid of Padme Lakshmi is too much to hope for. Hope we get more Bourdain this year.

Kick to The Galley if you want.

I watch it quite a bit, but I read the blogs on the site more often...they can get pretty funny....

I only bother with Chef Tom's blog, Harold's, and Bourdain's last year. Unless you're referring to Amuse Biatch, then yes, I must admit to reading it pretty frequently, even if it costs me a couple hetero points.

Oh, hell yeah!

I've followed Top Chef from the beginning...Bourdain is the best when he guest judges, his blog is gold.

I really look forward to the new season Wednesday! Every year when I first see the new group promoted I think 'lame'...I'm not going to like this group... then I see I underestimated them! And actually have my favs!(Which I don't yet, I haven't seen any promos yet, except one, one time.)

I'll check back.

I've never seen it.
Are episodes available online?
Maybe it will change my opinion about Bourdain...

Not sure if they're on Bravo's site, but I don't think so. However, you can download torrents. There's a thread in the Loresraat on torrents if you want to check it out.

Thanks Syl.

After losing the last laptop due to who knows what reason, we're very cautious about downloading torrents, videos, and even mp3s from non-official sites though. Streaming's fine, and if the episodes were on Bravo, that would be fine, but otherwise...

I'll need to check with Hyperception.

The elimination on the quickfire was surprising, but I think it really helped kick the pace up a notch or two. And judging from the personalities so far, that can only be a good thing. I'm a bit disappointed in Stefan and Fabio's attitude. And so far, there isn't a Marcel or a Richard in the bunch. That one guy did bring the foam, though.

A pleasant surprise was the guy really hitting it out of the park on his Indian dish. I thought he was going to fail that one. Have to keep an eye on him to see if it's more than just a fluke.

I didn't think it was any surprise to see who was sent home.

A few more eliminations and we might start to see what we're really working with. Always too unfocused with so many players in the beginning.

And my god, I thought we were done with the 'I want to be the first [insert label here] Top Chef.' Now it's 'European.' Give me a break.

Yeah, the dude who nailed the Indian dish is going far...probably my favorite at this point.
Man, the look on the deli guy's face when he tasted some dish and said "yeah, I'm gonna duplicate that." Outstanding. Padma was blown away by it.

Team Rainbow. Give me an effin break.

So, I just watched episode two... the female chef who screwed up the dessert dish she'd been making for years(Padma spit it out it was so bad)then cried how she was the one who should have been eliminated, was the one who should have gone. The ostrich omelet wasn't very ground breaking, but it was edible. Jill shouldn't have been eliminated on the dish alone...I think her absolute failure to find a few sensible words defending herself did her in.

A few times, at least, over the four previous seasons Judges have said how they take hours reaching these decisions, past contestants have said how the wait is horrible, usually hours pass locked up in that room together... how could you not be thinking of a few sentences to utter in defence of your self and your dish? Is Jill really that slow? She never came across as a sharp knife (heh) but, wow.

the lemon dessert girl will be eliminated soon enough.

Yeah, it was a toss-up, and I'm pretty sure her failure to defend herself did her in. Though, really, I take anything Padme says with a grain of selt (heh). She's not a chef. You don't gain a palate by osmosis, though I'm sure hosting Top Chef has helped (other than selling her cookbooks). And there's been a few moments where Tom or the others looked at her like she was on crack after some comment she makes. So just because she spit it out...

Seems like only one of my original picks from the bios made it to the final - Fabio. I thought it really should've come down to Jeff, Jaime, Fabio, and Stefan. Carla really turned out to be pretty good, though, so I'm glad she made it. I was rooting for her, but when she got teamed with Casey... Casey's a good chef, but she isn't a team player. I'm sure she did her best, but she ended up sinking Carla (who will most likely win fan favorite and already got a car).

No Ilan moment on this one. Though Stefan is a better chef, I think Hosea won the finale. I wouldn't have been upset to see Stefan win, but it was nice to see him get a comeuppance (I honestly think he was lucky not to get sent home the last two episodes).

Guy who won was from Taos New Mexico!!!! :S

Bourdain? You're talking about the guy who travels the world? No Reservations? That's one of the best shows on TV-how can you have a bad opinion of him?
