One of the classes I'm taking is "Film and Literature". Here's the project description for our final project:
Adaptation Proposal

Choose a work of literature that you think would be successful if adapted to film. You may choose a work that has never been adapted to film, or a work that has been adapted, but that you would like to remake. Your literary work may be a short story, novel, novella, drama, or other material like a comic book/graphic novel series. You may propose that it be adapted as a feature film, a made-for-TV film (cable or network), or a television series.

Propose how you would like this work to be adapted. Your proposal may take the form of a 3-5 page written report (Word document), or a 10-15 slide PowerPoint presentation (using Notes pages when necessary).

Your audience: your instructor, who will be role-playing a studio executive with the power to “green light” the project. The studio is financially successful and secure, so budget should not be a concern (but let’s not go overboard with requests for special effects or other expensive “bells & whistles”).

Your introduction should explain the rationale for this adaptation (artistic and/or commercial reasons).

The body of your Adaptation Proposal should consider factors which are important to adaptation, which may include but are not limited to the following:
  • Changes, additions, or deletions to the original text, and a rationale for making these changes
If you choose a work that has already been adapted, why do you want to remake it? Is it outdated? Was the original adaptation less than successful – do you think you can improve upon it, and if so how?
    Casting
    Director
Other key players (like cinematographer, set designer, costume designer, composer)
    Setting/locations
    Film style/mood/genre
Key plot points or themes that must carry over from literature to film
    Target audience/demographics
I think I've died and gone to academic heaven :)

Lord Foul's Bane has already been adapted to film. You should do the Illearth War. :P If you are unfamiliar with the film adaptation please check this website:

I've never been able to get FBH to work on my computer. I get the audio but the video shows up as a green blob. :(

what are your computer specs and what program are you using to try to watch it? I'll talk to Julie and see if we can fix that.

What do you mean by computer specs? I have tried to watch it as a podcast on iTunes and on whatever program pops up when you watch it online (I think it's Quicktime?). My browser is IE7.

If you have audio but no video, then you probably don't have the correct video codec installed. The usual reason for that is having a very old version of quicktime and/or windows media player and/or whatever. AFAIK the FBH movies aren't using anything non-standard.

The upgrade links for Quicktime should be available from the FBH site itself.

Okay, I'll try upgrading my Quicktime then. Thanks.

EDIT--Updated Quicktime, and it still doesn't work. :?

FWIW, I've had serious problems with Quicktime on Windows. That is, until I upgraded to XP Pro - then they mysteriously stopped.

Does that cost money?
