I am sad.

Every year, I make this fabulous peppermint bark for the holidays. (I think I've posted the recipe here. Somewhere.) The key ingredients are blocks of white and dark chocolate made by Ghiradelli. I always get the stuff at Trader Joe's.

Last night I stopped at TJ's to buy the chocolate, only to be told that Ghiradelli no longer makes their really big chocolate bars. 8O

I guess I can use Ghiradelli chocolate chips instead. But dammit, they're messing with my holiday traditions! When I told the TJ's clerk that I was making peppermint bark, he chirped, "Well, we sell peppermint bark!" Like buying an inferior mass-produced product would solve my problem.

Mostly it's an excuse to eat a bunch of chocolate. Like we need another one at the holidays....

Well, but he was young. I'm willing to let it go. This time.

Look further down in the thread that Menolly links to. You complained about problems with the white and the dark chocolate mixing.

 Alas, my budget for peppermint bark is too low. Tho it would be cool to work in a visit to some San Francisco Watchers....

There's a Ghiradelli store about two blocks from where I work...

dlb is coming to Orlando.
If he hits Universal Studios, I'm pretty sure there's a Gheradelli's store within the park as well...

Probably cheaper in San Francisco though...

How big is their "really big" chocolate bars? I'm almost positive my Publix carries standard baking bar sized bars of various kinds of Gheradelli chocolates...

No fair tempting me to travel when I'm broke!

Menolly -- I'm not sure how big the whole bar is. Trader Joe's was selling them broken into chunks of about 2/3 lb. each. I suspect the whole bar was probably about 5 lbs. or so. 8O

If you do see them, tho, pm me....

EDIT: Well! Apparently they are still making the 5 lb. bar in milk chocolate -- I just saw it on their website. For $60. 8O But hey, since it's over $50, I'd get free shipping! And unfortunately what I need is the dark and white chocolate, not the milk chocolate. Ah well, back to using chips...

ali, have you ever tried wintergreen or spearmint? Just curious. I like both better than peppermint, but they're not much done. I've had Wintergreen Patties sometimes, though. Right there on the shelf in a convenience store from time to time.

Are they done with chocolate, Fist?
I prefer both myself over peppermint, but I've only had them alone as mints or gum...

Just like the Peppermint Patty.

And, being a Robin Hood fan, it's easy to remember the brand. :D

Ooo...
I'll have to keep an eye peeled for them.
Thanks!
