Now that it's getting to be autumn for those of us who live in the northern hemisphere, you know that Halloween can't be too far way!

What is your favorite Halloween treat? Do you like traditional candies such as hershey' minis, or do you prefer seasonal candies such as candy corn?

Personally i think halloween is a bit of a waste of time and money but hey i guess it could be fun for kids. Maybe you should think of giving kids healthy treats of some kind rather than good ol sweets?

Halloween candy, it's kind of hard to pick. Most of the stuff that's any good (not the cheapie stuff) is just little candy bars. I think I always dug through my bag to first sort out the hersheys and snickers.

Easter candy, however.... mmmm, Cadburry Eggs.

Why can't they make Cadburry Pumpkins, or something? Well, I guess it'd get a little expensive to shell out 200 or so of 'em, but still. You buy a bag when they first put out the Halloween candy around Oct. 1, and you know it's not gonna make it to the 31st.

Heh. I trick-or-treated until I was 17. I love Halloween.

It's just an excuse for the grubby little oiks to lob eggs

I still like tossing the occassional egg. Of course I'm not overly fond of my neighbor and I can blame the local kids for such hijinx.

I've never had a trick or treater come to my door, ever. Its just not a big deal over here in OZ.

There'd be eggs and your trees would be t.p.'d if you give out celery for halloween.

i dont think i'd like my kids wandering the neighbourhood soliciting candy <lollies> from strangers

it sounds risky in this day and age

my kids sometimes say they'd like to do it .. haha .. but i just shake my head and they get their not going!

if they want lollies .. i'll go and buy them

its true its not a big deal here

but as a family we do celebrate halloween each year .. but not by trick or treating .. we always have a bonfire and sometimes have fireworks .. shhhh

if not .. we have sparklers and we always carve at least one pumpkin into a face and put a candle in it .. the kids love doing that!!

In england we used to use turnips to make candle faces .. instead of pumpkins .. and always had fireworks on Guy Forks Night (sp?)

so we just continue the same tradition .. a tad earlier or later is all

A lot of places are getting away from kids going from house to house, they throw community parties instead. My first use of my Elohimfest dress will be later this month at just such a party. Our sports teams are required to provide a community service so the high school and middle school wrestling teams will be throwing a community Halloween party for the little ones.
And some people give away pocket change rather than candy...
As for candy, I have always liked Hershey's special dark, which no one else in my family likes, so I get all of them.

Believe that's Guy Faukes, Sky. Nothing like a holiday dedicated to burning the effigy of someone who tried to blow up one of the monarchs (if I remember correctly).

Man, that is sooooo lame. Trick-or-Treating is what Halloween is all about. There's a bigger risk your kid could be hit by a car while crossing the crosswalk by your house than getting tainted candy (most of these stories being false, and one of the few true instances occured at a school party ... www.snopes.com/horrors/poison/hallowee.htm )

anyway whats lame? trick or treating is what halloween is all about?? is it? I really dont know much about Halloween .. except it was supposed to be in celebration of All Hallows Eve .. and i cant recall what that is anyway .. lol

as for Guy Fawkes .. lol .. yes there's nowt so social than a communal torching of a Guy Fawkes effigy .. something the kiddies can really get into

kind of reminiscent of a kkk burning of a crucifix good stuff .. just loaded with questionable morales for the kiddies

Ok, technically All Hallow's Eve is all about the symbolism of the last harvest before winter, the barrier between the world of the dead and the living, yada yada, but realistically, Halloween is all about wearing a cool costume and getting lots of loot (it was a shame if I came home with less than half a pillowcase full of candy).

I never went with the tricking aspect of it - you only have so many prime hours before people close up for the night or run out of candy, and anything more than a couple of eggs takes time... and it's not easy to carry around a bunch of eggs for a couple of hours, bouncing around from house to house. you either have to freeze your eggs or remember the house and come back later... but then you run the risk of being caught out after curfew, etc. and you're probably too busy going over your loot or having fun with your friends to care anymore anyway.

far out this american tradition is more whacked than i first realised .. lol so if someone is not in a generous mood .. you get to egg them? cool .. now that sounds like fun!!

Egg 'em, wrap their trees in toilet paper, etc. Anything that doesn't cause actual property damage is considered fair game. I've never done it (on Halloween anyway ), but the people that get it are usually really asking for it.
