I watched the remastered version this weekend.
Fantastic!.
This is my all time favorite Disney movie and definitely in my "top ten" of all time.

I didn't really notice any additional things they might have added but it didn't matter.
It was crisp and clean and good.

I love this movie for so many different reasons.
I know this movie is old and everyone has probably seen it many times but here's my review anyway.

First, I love blondes. So I could stop right there but I'll continue.

The artistic style is pleasing to my eyes, the backgrounds looked like true paintings not a cartoon. (I read once that it was done in a specific style but I forget what it was all about, linear I think.)

The music is nothing but wholesome goodness.
Aurora's parents are both alive (which is refreshing for a Disney movie)
The 3 Good Fairies are cute but not foolish.

Maleficent is just pure classic evil, and who is the only villain in Disney history that swears.
It's not enough to just kill Aurora and then later maybe Phillip, oh no, she sets them both up to be reunited when Phillip is a broken old man for no other reason other than she's a bitch.
And there are Goblins! I call them goblins anyway. You never see old fashioned Goblins any more.

Prince Phillip is a true hero.
His meeting with Rose in the forest is the best pick up scene in the history of cinema!
Then he returns home and casually and confidently changes course of the 2 entire monarchy's with his announcement of who he's going to marry.
Then he gets taken by surprise by a bunch of Goblins but it still takes about a dozen of them to hold him down.
With the help of the 3 Good Fairies he escapes his prison.
Now, when this happens the movie turns to greatness.
The music tempo picks up and intensifies until the climatic ending.
Maleficent even tosses God-damn lightning bolts at him but he escapes and when it looks like he's going to win his way through a giant forest of thorns to save Aurora, Maleficent turns herself into a fire breathing Dragon.
Let me repeat: a giant fire breathing freaking Dragon!
And what does Phillip do?
Fall back and consider his options?
Try to reason with her like Captain Picard?
No, he attacks her!
He had to retreat a few times as they fought but in the end he totally kicks her ass.
Then he gets the girl.
All this and no one will ever know what he did because they were all asleep.
And you can just tell that he doesn't care.
I bet he killed an army of giant Trolls on his honeymoon too. 8)

I was joking with Jenn at one point, when she was here visiting, that Tolkien must have seen SB before he wrote LOTRs and based Sauron on Maleficent. 3 year old Elora Grace loves dragons and the cover but is always pissed that it takes most of the movie for the dragon to appear. I never remembered or knew that her real name was Aurora until we bought this...

A girl after my own heart... ;)

Although, I'm with HLT on his review of this. Simply classic.

Wasn't it based on Tchaikovsky's ballet?
