I liked Thomas a bit better in the 2nd series. No one's better, Linden simply enhances the depth of the 2nd.

I don't think that any women in the second chronicles was going to be popular with the majority of TC fans. Maybe they are to protective of their little leper.
Sum sui generis

its strange isnt it? TC was no warm fuzzy dude .. but not even had I endured him throughout the first chrons. no one was going to be good enough for him

I was wary of LA .. and wasnt really sold on her much at all .. but I was glad of her love for TC and it was only then when i saw how much he truly did love her that i accepted her presence in the Land. lol ..
I didnt really like Troy much either though .. the land was TC's too

lol ..

Fair enough, and is my choice also, What I meant was who was more annoying, Thomas in the first or Linden in the second, my bad for not writing my topics right. Linden is much less annoying in the SC than Thomas is in the first. Though somehow Covenants character seemed more real, and so did his pain.

If SRD is the writer that we know and love him to be then he has on several times detailed LA's own pain, and written clearly on it. Women do tend to hide things better at SOME things than men. {stereotyping alert!!}Men are normally solid rocks of unemotional stone. Yet women, frail and delicate creatures that they are; are capable of harboring much more pain than any male. Ask any woman about rape years afterwards, the loss of a child, the betrayal of an adulterous husband. Hell on a physical level try childbirth...geez! Something to be witnessed btw.
Not only is Linden guilty of her mother's death but she also carries the weight of her father's death as well, even though it was a suicide. He locked that little girl in the attic with him and she had no alternative but to watch him bleed to death with the words: "You never loved me anyway" ringing in her ears, thus in a little girl's mind (now, grown to an adult) ...she's bears the pain of guilt for that. Likewise TC's appearance reminded her of her father; in WGW she states: "I wish you quit looking like my g-ddamned father."
Think about that for a moment and gauge the woman's pain again.
Now add the sunbane; a total corruption of everything natural and good about the Land, (ok ok Alanitha was spared and so was Andelain...or was it?). LA's health sense magnified tenfold because she's a doctor was a terrible weight for her to bear day in and day out in the Land. TC's health sense was there in the first chronicles but dulled in the second. Even then his health sense was not as finely attuned as LA's
Also during her healing of the people, Haruchai and Giants, she had to feel the pain of each during. Likewise when she directed the giants to set her broken arm...ever had that done? It doesn't tickle I'll tell ya that.
Then one more. Her loathing of possession, several times she had to do this or be subjected to it.
Likewise she was sensitive to the pains of those around her.
Looking at Vain's half wooden arm she stated "he must be in terrible pain". She knew.
Now, tell me about her pain again?
Personally... I liked TC...
but I hold a deep admiration for LA (as if that wasn't obvious)

TC is the more interesting character. But, I have to hand it to Linden - she showed loved to a man who was quite unloveable (at least in the first chrons!). TC is a character who you hate to begin with and yet, somehow, SRD makes him do an about face and you forgive all of his trespasses and begin to love him.

ummm...
NO....
No one could possably live up to the omnipotent and magnificant annoyance factor that only LA had....

I didn't dislike Linden, I just like Thomas more. In the Second Chrons he blew me away. How he managed to control all that venom inside of him, his determination to save the Land, his sacrifice.
Linden got on my nerves in the second chrons alot more then Thomas did in the first. I understood Covenant's reluctance, his unbelief, his self-loathing. With Linden, I felt bad for her, but I didn't really get into her head the way I did Covenant's. In fact, I always let out a groan when a chapter was done in her POV. I preferred Thomas. He
was my hero after all.

Covenant was more appealing to me in either chronicles. I'm nearly finished reading the One Tree for the third time and I am reminded how painful it is to experience Linden's irritation with everyone and everything around her at this point. That may have an impact on my enjoyment of her character. She does become less prickly later in the story.

yeah but its too late by that point... the damage is done, as TC knows all too well...
