Illearth War
Then: TWL, TOT, LFB, FR, PTP, WGW, Runes. In that order.

It was close with Ilearth War but One Tree wins out for me.
Getting to meet the Elohim
The Elohim's struggle to keep Vain
The Haruchai's battle with the Sandgorgon
Covenant's battle with the Sorcerer (sorry been too many years, need to reread to remember the name)
The Sandgorgon responding to Covenant's call
The battle at the One Tree
wow!

Still Illearth War with The One Tree a very close second. Haven't read Fatal Revenant yet though.
BUT IM ONE CHAPTER AWAY FROM FINISHING MY REREAD OF RUNES THAT WILL LEAD ME INTO FR!!! (bit excited cos im dying to read FR)
Runes has failed to impress enough for me to alter my previous rankings.

Always nice to see positive comments about The One Tree!
I tend to vacillate between TOT and TIW myself. But I think I've chosen TOT as my favorite more times.
Infelice, hope you have a blast with FR!

IM STARTING IT TOMORROW!!!!!
Im resisting the temptation to dive right into at this very moment. I need to let the dust of Runes settle in my head for 24 hours.

I had to go with TOT but TIW made for a photo finish.

The only reason I didn't list the Giants is I feel they steal almost every scene they are in, in every book <grin>.

by Brinn of the Haruchai
TIW, Hile Troy giving TC (and me) support that the Land is "real"

I had to vote for WGW over the Illearth War, which was the first book out of the Chronichles I read. I really loved the battle scenes in the Illearth War, but I chose White Gold Wielder because of the way Grimrand and Covenant sacrificed themselves.. The rending of the Raver was special, and finding out what happenned to Findail and Vain was a pretty good climax.

I'm sure I've done this poll before it was this poll, if you know what I mean ..
Illearth War by a decent margain; consistently brilliant, full of imagination and compelling philosophical debate; the expansion of the Land as had been introduced by SRD in LFB was startling the first time I read TIW, the book is jam-packed with awesomeness.
in no particular order :
The mystery of Amok.
The revelation of Elena's lineage.
The fate of the mission to Seareach.
TC's story at the rock gardens of the Maerl.
TC vs. Hile Troy.
Hile Troy's plight.
The appearance of Caerroil Wildwood
Giant-Ravers.
Melenkurion Skyweir, Earthroot, the whole blood of the Earth buisness. It was an eerie and beautiful place.
Insight into Mhoram's thoughts, particularly in 'Seer and Oracle'.
Revelwood and it's learned community.
Hoerkin aka ahamkara, the Door; scary !!
Lord Hyrim (we barely knew thee, but you were way cool !)
I know the book backwards but could happily pick it up right now and read it cover to cover.

You make good points. That's why it's a very close second on my list. I still think the 2nd book in the first two series was by far the best.

While I prefer the original Chronicles over the Second, my favorite book (so far) of the entire series is The Wounded Land.
Nothing Donaldson has ever written has moved me more than his description of the soul cleansing Caamora Covenant provides for the Seareach giants. And his swift journey across the Land to Revelstone with the aid of the power of the Waynhym is magnificently inspiring.
I'm only 100 pages into Fatal Revenant, but thus far (IMO), the Last Chronicles strike me as yet another tedious trudge through Linden's angst ridden, hand-wringing, mortified psyche. I had more than I could stand of that in The One Tree, the weakest of all the Covenant books. Much ado about nothing while little or nothing actually happens, and what does transpire proves irrelevant, futile and - with the exception of the events in Brathairealm and the "recruitment" of Nom the Sandgorgon, mind-numbingly boring. Though I once had a beloved pet German shepherd I named Ak Haru Kenaustin Ardenol - "Haru" for short.
Okay, now I'm ready to be pilloried for my dubious opinions and less than unquestioning loyalty.
Have at it, Dearly Beloved

Keep reading DS...and hang onto your hat. The rest of FR will be quite a ride.

I also loved Wounded Land due to the fact that Covenant was older, more beaten down, and less cowardly in the way SRD portrayed him, I also liked the fact that no one (except the haruchai and his dead) knew who he was, so he had to prove his worth to the Land from scratch.I have to say it was my favorite
