Surely, some of his fans are out there, so which is your favorite novel (not movie, mind you!) Also remember, Bid Time Return=Somewhere in Time!

I Am Legend was the first that I read, and it got me hooked on Matheson...though I've only read a few of his other ones...
As far as Hollywood loving him...I really wish they would quit raping his novels (though I have yet to see Somewhere in Time)

Just finished Hell House... at the risk of raising expectations too high...holy crap, it's been awhile since anything frightened me like that...

I read I Am Legend and enjoyed it. Then picked up Hell House and just kept feeling like I wouldn't be happy if I kept reading it. Bad karma and all. So I put it down after a few pages. Was already making my skin crawl.
Last time I ignorred a feeling like that, snuck out to see The Exorcist when I was 17 and had creepy feelings/bad dreams for several years.

It isn't for everyone. I had to set it aside a couple of times because the suspense was literally suffocating me (or I forgot to breathe, either way, powerful stuff...)

You do know, I'm going to give in and try reading it again. I may be sorry later, but it's just too interesting sounding to resist.

I've only read Stir of Echoes, but never saw the movie. The majority of the rest of those mentioned I've seen (except I Am Legend).
I still prefer his writing for the Twilight Zone.

I liked Stir of Echoes. My wife thought it was boring. Haven't read it, just seen the movie.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I did...without the literally suffocating suspense, of course!!!
