When Kevin decided to destroy the Land with his Ritual of Desecration he sent the various peoples of the Land to the four corners of the earth. The Giants were OK at sea and the native stonedownors and woodhelvenin went south and north to scrape through the hard times. But what of the Bloodguard? Sure, they went to their native mountains in the west when the ritual was enacted but what did they do for the following 1000 years?

The 500 Bloodguard remained alive for the duration because they're still alive when Covenant comes into the picture. Did they just sit in their mountain huts drinking mountain water waiting to spy staffed men roaming on the plains below? Or did they spend this duration in the Land itself fighting to keep the remnants of the Land in as good a condition as possible? Or perhaps they went on preemptive strikes against possible enemies the people (and Lords) of the Land would have to face when they returned? Or maybe they were wondering the face of the Earth seeking Lords to serve under every rock and cranny.

What??? They had 1,000 years of idle time on their hands. Surely something happened with them in all this time.

Also, if they were staying in the mountains, how did their unsworn relatives treat them? And think of them?

It doesn't actually say (that I know of), so I just assumed they stayed in Revelstone till the Lords returned. Lords Keep was undamaged by the destruction.

Bannor: I don't know. What do you want to do today?
Tuvor: I don't know. What do you want to do today Morin?
Morin: Hmmm. I don't know. Korik, got any ideas?
Korik: I dunno.

I too thought of this when I read PtP and saw that the Bloodguard recinded their vow to the Lords because they felt the vow had been corrupted and therefore their service was unworthy.
Following Kevin's bad hair day, I suspect they went to Seareach for it was not caught up in the desecration. This would also explain the strong fidelity the Bloodguard and Giants held.
Also explains why they were in tune with when to return as the Giants presented the 'new' Lords with the first ward, I think the Bloodguard's return was about the same time.
Other than playing fist-in-face day after day, they probably nurtured the return to the land of other folk as well.
Though I have yet to read the third series, did crack open the first two chapters of book one then stopped (waiting for the remaining volumes) and the actions of certain folk in it feeds this interpretation of events.

Wasn't the RoD 1,000 years before the first chronicles? Who said they were away from the land for 1,000 years?

The Giants had to go out to sea in their ships to avoid being caught up in the Ritual. I would assume their un-Vowed kin treated the Bloodguard like nothing major had happened. After all, their presence their was an expression of their fidelity.
