Reason and Faith

Having a good ol' time in the Close tonight.
What is the balance(or relationship) between reason and faith? Should one yield to the other? Is one superior to the other (Samish question, I know)? Are they compatible? Why or why not?

To me they're compatible. I base my actions on reason and nature. My view of the future (which may be pointless as I prefer to live in the "now") is based on reason, yet I have total faith in a global paradigm shift on Dec. 2012 and in a loving entity.

I see reason as the optimal method for describing and interacting with the tangible physical world. Faith's province is the spiritual realm.

Hey, my gut feelings are pretty physical and tangible to me...

Especially when it's vomited up, huh?
My view on reason and faith are fairly similar to danlo's, I think. I believe that every action starts out as being faith-based. I go to school because I believe an education will be advantageous, I may work because I believe I'll earn money. Reason, however, is the process by which I get there. Refering to the school example, I believe an education will help me, but how do I get there? I may reason that I need to do good on SATs and apply to schools in order to attain the object of my faith.

Well, little kids go to school because their parents make them. Their parents send them to school because the law will put them in the hoosegow if they don't. I *guess* you could call those reasons faith-based (kids have faith in their parents; adults have faith in the cops), but that may be taking the analogy a little far.

I don't think so, though it does get a little dizzying...
