Absolutely. My departed maternal grandmother was one of the most wonderful people I have ever had the honor and pleasure of knowing. To me, the tougher question is whether or not I could choose the dead whom I would meet. Then again I can't think of any of them that I would have a really big problem meeting. Give my brother a few years, though...

... nobody I know.

That's the same person I was going to say. (Well, not your maternal grandmother...)AjK wrote:Absolutely. My departed maternal grandmother was one of the most wonderful people I have ever had the honor and pleasure of knowing.
I have no experience with this topic, but Furls might have some things to say on the subject.lorin wrote:wouldnt meeting your dead have unforseen repercussions as did the power of command?

Not sure about the unforeseen consequences. I do know however that it is a safe bet that several would want to borrow money. Lets just say that theirs is the Power of Laziness.lorin wrote:wouldnt meeting your dead have unforseen repercussions as did the power of command?
You would have liked her. Lets just say she could have been a character in Gates of Fire. On the good side.Fist and Faith wrote:That's the same person I was going to say. (Well, not your maternal grandmother...)

Not in the religious aspect, I more meant in how we look at ourselves. We see our lives and our relationships to the living and the dead through one set of eyes. Our dead, if we could speak to them might see the past in a very different way. If we spoke to them we would see our own lives very differently, and as a consequence our lives would change. Isn't that basically what drove the people of the land that visited Andelain and met their dead to madness?lorin wrote:wouldnt meeting your dead have unforseen repercussions as did the power of command?

Good side or bad, if she could have been in Gates, her nickname musta been Killer Granny!AjK wrote:You would have liked her. Lets just say she could have been a character in Gates of Fire. On the good side.

I didn't mean Furls in a religious aspect. If I was to speak for her (), I suspect she'd say it is of a religious nature, but it's also very worldly and practical. Alex is now living in her home, because she was made aware of his situation.lorin wrote:Not in the religious aspect, I more meant in how we look at ourselves. As for Andelain, I would hope everybody wasn't driven mad by viewing their lives differently. Are our lives, or at least the lives of all inhabitants of the Land, in such bad shape? My impression is that it was grief from seeing their dead, but not being able to touch them. (Which is also a lame reason to actually go mad. I assume they just went through a lot of grief for a while.)

All I can say in response to this is Thorton Wilder's "Our Town" Act 3, Part 1...lorin wrote:Not in the religious aspect, I more meant in how we look at ourselves. I crewed a production of Our Town when in High School 30-some years ago...but I surely didn't get it then, despite seeing it over and over. Had not given the play another thought again until viewing that clip.
Thank you -- I think.
Need to go hug wife & son...
I was involved with Chorus, not Drama, throughout school, but I saw my high school's production of Our Town. It was the first "in the round" production I ever saw, and that particular act hit me as soon as I saw it...and has stayed with me.

No self-doubt allowed here, by mod decree.
I think I'd like to talk to my Dead. I'd like to hear what they have to say. Hopefully they wouldn't be too harsh...

First, I do not believe my "dead" are dead. They have just passed on to their other life. I talk to them all the time, and they talk to me. Religious or not, it's just how it is with me. It's a very normal facet of my life. They, my brother in particular, guide me thru the steps I must take along my journey thru this life.Fisty wrote:I didn't mean Furls in a religious aspect. I suppose such things may drive people mad. Some may call me schizo because I hear their voices whispering to me all the time. I feel normal tho. Hehehehe. I've not been committed...yet. HA!
So, yes. I would talk to them and I do talk to them. It is no different than when they were here. Well, in Stephen's case, he's alot more cryptic now than he was when he walked in this life. I think he is getting a kick out of confusing me now.

And I believe in you
altho you never asked me too
I will remember you
and what life put you thru.

~this world was never meant for one as beautiful as you~
...for then I could fly away and be at rest. Sweet rest, Mom. We all love and miss you.
