Personally, I like the prelude to LOTR (or is LOTR the sequel to the Hobbit? your call) more than the trilogy itself. *shrug* I dunno why. I love Bilbo! Truly a great character. You really get a taste for Middle-Earth in this novel.

How do you guys feel about it?

I have always thought the Hobbit to be very charming, and I think Bilbo kicks some serious butt. :D
And I've always liked Smaug. :) Image

The Hobbit has a very very special place in my heart. It is the very first fantasy book I ever read and I've been reading fantasy ever since. I love it, and treasure it. :)

I liked the hobbit the most out of all of them... such a great book!

I liked the trilogy more. More detail, action. Though it is sad that there are no dragons in the LOTR.

The Hobbit was my introduction into fantasy. That distinction will always be special to me. It is a fantastic work of its own accord. :-)

I can't remember which came first for me. The Hobbit, or the Chronicles of Narnia. Both still, imo, kick ass.

I very much enjoy The Hobbit. It is a worthy introduction to Middle Earth. I tend to prefer it over the trilogy because it simply tells a story rather than an earth shattering series attempting to save the world. Let me say that LOTR is certainly worthy of acclaim but it suggests unalterable finality whereas the Hobbit begins an even more dramatic story...

I ever start a band I’ll probably name it “Smaug”. I just love that name. Sorry, that was off-topic! Oh well!

To continue your digression:
When George R. R. Martin wrote his dark fantasy novel (The Armageddin Rag) about 1960's rock music, he also chose a Tolkien name for his band, The Nazgul. 8)

Back to the Hobbit, I would agree that this little book rocks! :D
I think it was my first fantasy book, too. :D [/i]
