Spotify / Last.fm / sharemyplaylists.com

Three music sites that are linked together and seem to have lots of potential, especially for somewhere like Vespers.

(Bear with me while I explain, I'm quite new to all 3, and have bumbled my way through them so far)

www.spotify.com
Download Spotify and you have a huge music library (by no means exhaustive, but still...huge!) of tracks that you can listen to any time. The free version comes with advertisements - every 15 minutes or so of listening, it plays a 2 minute ad. You can pay to get rid of the ads but they're not too intrusive.
You search, it gives a list, and each band and song title and record label is a link that you can pursue.
You can build 'playlists' of any tracks just by creating a playlist and dragging a track into it.

www.sharemyplaylists.com
A separate site to Spotify.
You join, and you can 'post' your spotify playlists, give them an 'album cover' and description, browse other people's playlists, rate them etc.

www.last.fm
Haven't completely got my head round this site yet, but you can 'scrobble' (great verb!) your account to your spotify account. Anything you play on Spotify will be listed in last.fm.
If you make friends with someone, you can see what they are listening to on spotify, and 'compare' your musical tastes.
It also has what seems (so far) to be a very good recommendation section. So it sees that you have listened to ten bands on spotify and will suggest other bands that you might be interested in, based on the bands that you already have listened to. So far, considering that I haven't explored Spotify much, it has come up with a sizeable chunk of my music library, based on what I have listened to on spotify, and it's also reminded me of lots of bands that I used to like and had forgotten about.

If anyone explores, I'm 'Stonemaybe' on all 3.

ha! I was going to post a thread like this, but you beat me to it! ;)

There's also:

blip.fm/all
A site pretty much just like last.fm, except it automatically posts to your Twitter, Facebook, etc. account(s). I'm not sure if last.fm does this, too. I'm also JazFusion on blip.fm

www.imeem.com
A music site where you can upload mp3's from your computer and make a playlist. You can also get songs from other people and add them to your playlist. I'm also JazFusion there, too.

A couple of friends really rave about Spotify, so I cracked and downloaded it. It doesn't really do anything for me though. The only thing I've searched for on there and actually found is the Breeders, and I find the interface very user-unfriendly.

I haven't tried any of the others.
