I have completely fallen in love with this vocal group from Slovenia. They are impeccable in their live performances and incredible vocalists across the board. I bought their CD because I can't get enough of them on youtube and I wanted to see how they came across in the studio.
Surprisingly, while I enjoy the CD a great deal, I find that the energy of their live performances do not translate as well as I had hoped. This is true for a lot of bands, but I think even more so for a group that many times goes without a band and does all the instrumentation vocally.
In addition, some of their song choices left me scratching my head. "Killing Me Softly", while technically done well, is missing the soul of Roberta Flack, and "Joyful Joyful" has, in my opinion, an ill fitting tribute to Janet Jackson's "What Have You Done For Me Lately?" and Naughty By Nature's "Down With O.P.P." in the midst of what is essentially a gospel tune. Plus a few of their slower tunes lack excitement.
That said, I did enjoy this CD a ton, and their skill is unquestioned. Both versions of the title track (there is a radio mix) are awesome, and "As", "Baroque Samba", and "Bres Besed/Eres Tu" are wonderful. The talent is unbelievable, and if they ever do get their live energy to come across on disc, look out!
I will be buying their new CD too once it is released.
