Fyi, there are no spoilers in my post:

Just saw Gamer yesterday with my step-daughter and was largely let down. Butler was okay (my hat is off to any leading man who does not rely on "pretty boy" looks.) All I will say is that the majority of the movie is filmed in what I lovingly refer to as ADHDvision. More information than you could possibly take in, with scenes comprised of roughly 2 to 3 cuts/jumps per second. It just doesn't appeal to me. Spastic film making does not automatically translate to "action" for me. One nice continuous shot once in a while wouldn't kill the movie. Notice that I said "kill the movie" as opposed to "kill the plot". The plot was an underdeveloped snippet of a mildly interesting idea. It went nowhere with minimal details and the resolution was predictable and weak. Sorry if this seems overly negative. My step-daughter liked it (although she admits that a good portion of the reason for that was Butler with his shirt off) and you might, too.

Lastly I will place the following in spoiler tags due more to mature content than it containing actual spoiler material, although there is a slight element of that:
Spoiler
If I had to sit through one more scene that involved a close-up of that woman's barely concealed @ss crack I would have been better off just getting on-line and looking at p0rn.

Thanks for the warning. I've been looking forward to this movie, but I suppose I should lower my expectations.

(spoilered to maintain style)

You know, I completely agree. And not just in movies, but in video games as well. It just gets annoying when it's thrown in there for no reason at all - unless it's high quality, of course :) But most of the time, you end up thinking "I've seen better asses on YouTube."

I was looking forward to it as well. Perhaps that contributed to my let down. Take my comments with a grain of salt. LOL at the "seen better on youtube" comment!

If it is, I'm not aware of the original. What is it a remake of?

Well, not a remake, but very much based on Running Man

To bad, I was looking forward to seeing my home town blown to smithereens...(they say they're been picking up the foam pieces of the Convention Center model on a number of downtown streets for the past 3 months. lol)

I can see the 'killing on tv' connection (though that's been done loads of times) and the 'convicts as contestants' connection (which, again, has been done a few times and only applies to the crappy film version of The Running Man anyway), but I don't think that's enough to infer direct mimicry.

Incidentally, the book of The Running Man was so much better. Why they changed it so drastically for the film, I have no idea. Probably the best thing I've ever read by Stephen King.

It's heresay...but I read a review that many of the scenes and even the characters were nearly lifted directly from RM.

I am not the sharpest marble in the bag but I didn't make a Running Man connection at any point during my viewing of this movie (even if one was there.) Take that for what it is worth...
