Not too bad. The recurring appearances of Ganoes Paran helps to knit the various sections together. I am finding that Mind Mapping each chapter is helping :D

The following link will probably explain it better than myself

Also here is an example I did for the Prologue and the beginning of Chapter 1

That's pretty damn cool!!

Your mind map is going to get MASSIVE - and I'm only up to Midnight Tides, less than half way through the series...

I'd love to see the Mind Map in a few books' time!

I am now mind mapping per chapter at the moment. It will be interesting to see what the MM for GOTM turns out when I have read the book.

Well there are characters and then there are CHARACTERS. I am sure I will have to differentiate between bit characters and major characters. As long as it helps to keep track of who's who and where they are :D

Yes. If your mind map includes every character you meet, you will need a sheet of paper the size of Rhode Island.

The importance of characters is not really a fixed value, either. There are people might not seem important who become so later, and vice versa. You wind up with a lot of people getting their time in the fore, and noone's really considered less important.

That mind-mapping is DEFINITELY a good idea for this series! It'd be really really interesting to look at maps of first read, when you go back for a re-read - you'll probably see dead ends or minor characters that seemed to go nowhere, that have taken on huge significance in later books.

Are the colours significant? If they are, eg for good guys/bad guys/ gods, again that would be fascinating as characters evolve during the series.

The colours are not significant, unless there is something within the text, for example, the fisherman's daughters hair is described as being long and black. When Topper arrives later on in chapter one green would be the dominate colour relating to him.

However, the use of colours and/or images are an important part of mind mapping process, as the brain can easily remembers such things. My only other experience with mind maps was when I was revising for my exams and got one the best ever scores I ever achieved.

Well, I really enjoyed it. In fact, I think I've enjoyed GotM more every time I've read it. Since every time I've had more info on the characters/plot lines. This time round, it made the most sense of all. I even found myself carefully reading the excerpts that begin chapters and books and finding more meaning in them.

This time round, GotM feels more like a prequel than anything else. And it was surprising to be reminded just how old Onearm is...how old does that make Whiskeyjack?

And what's with the long life spans of humans anyway? Seems to me it gets pointed out less in subsequent books. I'd forgotten about it in GotM.

(On to DHG...(Actually, I'm 100 pages in already. :D )

I am afraid Mr Erikson is not for me. I like a nice linear story rather than

having to keep track of different characters and plot lines. I take it this is

the same reason I cant get on with the Wheel of Time books.

Yeah, the bouncing around from timeline to timeline can be a bit confusing.
