CO2 is Green? How stupid do they think America is?

This is part of a new mass media campaign to discredit global warming-running national TV ads and taking half page ads out in today's papers. I'm not getting into the politics here, hence I didn't post this in the tank, but, really, just how stupid does H. Leighton Steward think America is?

Someone oughtta point out that increasing plant growth reduces CO2 levels, and see if it makes their heads explode.

Without getting into the political implications, it's highly interesting to note: "Leighton Steward is a geologist, environmentalist, author, and retired
energy industry executive."

This reminds me of the idea that adding aerosols and particulates into the atmosphere (what used to be called pollution) would actually help cool the planet by reflecting sunlight and increasing cloud cover. See also arxiv.org/abs/0907.5140

Yes plants do obsorb CO2. But they also release it as they decay. Just as wood releases CO2 as it is burned and also as it rots. But you are also right. We don't need any more CO2. With all the forests and ranch land being paved over to accomidate another subdivision or a strip mall soon we will have no need for CO2.

This is just dumb...if plants need our CO2 help, then how did they rule the world for the 3 billion or so years before we started feeding them?
Heh..put your houseplants in a clear bag and start pumping in CO2..see what happens.

This may come as a shock to you but humans are not the only source of CO2 on the planet. Any carbon based material thet decays will release CO2. Dead animals, leaves off of trees, respiration by animals, and so on. You may also be surprised that volcanic activity produces CO2. The real kicker is that the solubility of CO2 in water is decreased as the water temperature rises. Maybe we should tax the oceans for causing global warming!

Laying down concrete, tarmac, and so on acts as a CO2 sink, removing an amount from the atmosphere. In the same manner that fossilised shells of sea creatures have done - in that form, the chemical is removed from the usual cycles.
There are too many different things at work for us to look at it in the way this particular group is; all we can do is realise that our industries produce excess pollution and greenhouse gases (including water vapor, the most prevalent greenhouse gas by a huge margin) that are greatly accelarating changes in our environment, and work to reduce those.

Yes, hydrogen hydroxide is a killer greenhouse gas, for sure.
