I know I know I'm 8 months early!
BUT Ireland play France in the first leg of their play-off tomorrow night and I want a thread to shout and cheer in, when we win, and then hold them to a boring goalless draw in France on Wednesday!

I have a rooting interest in Uraguay @ Costa Rica tomorrow...4 of my employees are from Costa Rica and I saw their pain first hand when we watched the last US / Costa Rica match where we put them into the play-in game against Uraguay. I thought that these guys wre going to cry...

Ireland 1-0 down after home leg, Paris game starts in about 30 mins. The nervous tension is high!

Ouch! From what I saw, they had a lot of the play and chances. The French didn't deserve it. Commiserations, Stone.

Thanks for the commiserations, Stevie.
Ireland won the ninety minute game 0-1, which meant extra time and if the score stayed the same after the extra 30 minutes, a penalty shoot-out.
France scored after about thirteen minutes.
The nature of the goal was...well, their best player Thierry Henry blatantly cheated to set it up! Not accidental handball, but accidental followed by blatant handball.
So, though we lost the game, we won the moral victory! I can't wait to see the backpage headlines today. I hope Henry is treated like a pariah (to think, he was one of my favourite players, before this)! Though he did look contrite after the game (17 minutes too late!)

Bad cheating, this is what Barcelona has done to Henry
Still one of my favorite players all time... LEGEND period
We know all the teams now, now for the draw in December

Am not a fan of the Republic, but I felt their pain last night.
Henry should get a hefty ban for that blatant piece of cheating.
However, I'm sure Michel Platini will bail him out.
Another victory for the "big" team.

Great news! Platini has agreed to a replay of the final half of extra time in the France-Ireland play-off!

- that looks fair!!
Well, Australia are in with Germany, Ghana and Serbia. Obviously, Ghana is a crucial game and Serbia is a must-win. We'll see...

More bad news today. Well, not today exactly, but I
realised today that the missus will be out of country for the World Cup.
Why is that bad news? I can now watch any game I want whenever I want without having to worry about anything. Except, she being South Korean, we normally go out and find a pub where there'll be some SKs watching their matches (plenty around, lots of language schools here).
South Koreans are the
best fans to watch football with. They'll start off shy and reserved, but with a tiny bit of encouragement, once the match starts, they go NUTS!
I suppose I could still do it, but I'd feel a bit of a fraud.
This sort of thing!

Will be watching the WC with interest, but with great trepidation.
I think this will help me

You've obviously not seen Messi playing lately. Best player on the planet at the moment.

Yea i sed at this moment, i think on form Messi is way better than Rooney but right now Rooney is the form player setting up and scoring goals plus he does something Messi doesnt n thats defend.

Rooney is definitely top of his game at the moment. Messi is bloody impressive though! Strikers don't defend!! Rooney's a freak!
I'm getting twitchy though - not long now!

I wish it wasn't in South Africa, no one is going because the country is dangerous plus fifa have once again managed to overinflate the tickets again... 3000 per match and the risk of getting beat up and robbed.. no thanks

It's not really dangerous y'know. I've been living here for more than 30 years...statistically, you'll be fine. Of course, some people will still be nailed, tourists make easy targets. But almost everybody won't have any problems.
But yeah...FIFA is screwing everybody, including us.
