Forum issues - Bugs and Bugger !!

We're having a few issues that most likely can only be resolved by moving to the phpbb3 version of this forum software. that in itself is a bugger because of the database size and the load it would place on the server if I was to try and convert it.
I am looking at a different solution and can hopefully get it up and running in less than a week.
The phpbb3 version won't have many of the 'toys' that this version has acquired over time but I think that's something we can live with and progressively change as we go along.
Anyway, just thought I'd let you guys know what's in the pipeline - will try keep you posted on progress.
As a heads up, i have manged to save the database as of this evening so if things turn to custard, at least we will will have what we have currently

Are the problems related to the size of the Watch database?

I must admit to really liking some of the phpBB3 features we have at the Hangar. Just hope that the move goes smoothly. Of course, I have every faith in Vain.

Things could change pretty quickly over the weekend - so if you see the site is down, it's because I'm doing stuff. But i'm only going to do stuff if i can complete a dry run successfully on my laptop - and that's proving to be interesting
If I can get things sorted then phpbb3 will be running and then i'll rely on av and jay et al to iron out the bugs etc

I just want you guys to know that I'm 100% behind you in this. And, naturally, if anything happens to go wrong, I'll be in my usual spot, heading up the lynch mob......

Making conditions even more ripe for a mob! And again, let me reiterate my complete support for the KW Administration. Provided the don't make any mistakes, that is.

Yes. Despite the weirdness happening with the Hangar, I've liked the phpBB3 design and features from the start.

Weirdos !!

Anyway, just thought i'd keep you up to speed. I will need to suspend this board while i do a bunch of database stuff so if you see the out of order sign, then you know i'm doing stuff.
I haven't managed to get things sorted yet - it's a bit of a nightmare actually and there's going to be glitchy stuff happening so a bit of patience would be cool.
I understand the hangar is having probs - i will look into that when I can but my priority right now is KW. I have the hangars database backed up so no need to worry

I didn't manage to move over to phpBB3 over the weekend....obviously

But I do think I found the rot and I've put a halt to it.
still - I plan to move things over when I can figure out a few things. it's all quite geeky at the moment

Rather than starting a new thread I ll just continue this one. For the past week Ive been having some issues connecting to KW.
I often get an internal server error and very slow to connect.
Its a problem particular to only this site. I dont have probs connecting to others such as ebay, etc etc.
Is it just me, or is there a bit of bugs and bugger going on?

I've been noticing some errors lately too... but it seems to happen mostly when I connect through the university Wi-Fi...

Far as I know, the more we post, the more likely we are to have little glitches like that, as the database grows.
Afraid there's not much that can be done about it at this point. Will mention to Vain that it seems to be recurring.
Thanks for your patience.
