I love these guys! They were such a great band. Gotta love that keyboarding. I really like their style: good guitar and keyboards, incorporated with some blues. My favorite songs are: Break On Through (To the Other Side); LA Woman; Light My Fire; Hello, I love You; People Are Strange...:D

What are your favorite tunes by the Doors?

Not a terribly big fan but like "LA Woman" cause Billy Idol covered it ... and of course because I got one :)

How could any cover possibly equal the Doors' version? Of anything? It's like those guys who did a cover of the Righteous Brothers a couple years ago. Why would you deliberately invite a comparison you're bound to lose on?

My favorite groups are always favorites because they can give great lyrics a music worthy of them. I said on another thread that I like the Doors so well because they were able to surround Morrison's lyrics in such overwhelming music.

L.A. Woman isn't my favorite of their songs, even though it's great, but it is my favorite of their albums. To my mind, "Riders On the Storm" is a fitting zenith to their career.

Doors favorites, mostly working backwards in time:

The Changling
Love Her Madly
Cars Hiss By My Window
Queen Of the Highway
Wild Child
Runnin' Blue
The Soft Parade
Not to Touch the Earth
Moonlight Drive
I Can't See Your Face In My Mind
Break On Through
The Crystal Ship
Light My Fire
and
We Could Be So Good Together

If I weren't already watching Primal Fear, this thread would start me listening to all six of the original Doors albums right now. :-)

Alright I'll come clean, I hate the Doors. If I cared for them, I'd hate them with a passion, but I don't therefore I only hate them.

(those not keen on naughty lyrics please avoid the following)

I am actually more of a fan of TISM, than I am of The Doors. However, TISM do pay a tribute to the band of which you speak. The lyrics can be found here : www.lyricshut.co.uk/getlyrics.php?a=1172617

(I warned you)

I guess a life lesson in a song isn't ALL bad :)

The TISM lyrics sound even worse than Mozart's private letters.

After listening to several Doors albums this evening, I just had to sing along. My cats were understandably troubled: an aging tenor voice that has rarely been pulled out of mothballs for thirty years, suddenly cracks the air above their nap.

I think my favorite Doors song would be "Soul Kitchen". The interplay between the keyboard and guitar, the particular thunking timbre of the bass pedals, and the lyrical tribute to a favorite hangout spot always leave me comfortably smiling.

SOUL KITCHEN
(Written by John Densmore, Robbie Krieger, Ray Manzarek, Jim Morrison)

Well, the clock says it's time to close now
I guess I'd better go now
I'd really like to stay here all night
The cars crawl past all stuffed with eyes
Street lights share their hollow glow
Your brain seems bruised with numb surprise
Still one place to go
Still one place to go

Let me sleep all night in your soul kitchen
Warm my mind near your gentle stove
Turn me out and I'll wander baby
Stumblin' in the neon groves

Well, your fingers weave quick minarets
Speak in secret alphabets
I light another cigarette
Learn to forget, learn to forget
Learn to forget, learn to forget

Let me sleep all night in your soul kitchen
Warm my mind near your gentle stove
Turn me out and I'll wander baby
Stumblin' in the neon groves

Well the clock says it's time to close now
I know I have to go now
I really want to stay here
All night, all night, all night

I wanna tell you 'bout Texas Radio and the Big Beat
Comes out of the Virginia swamps
Cool and slow with plenty of precision
With a back beat narrow and hard to master

Some call it heavenly in it's brilliance
Others, mean and ruthful of the Western dream
I love the friends I have gathered together on this thin raft
We have constructed pyramids in honor of our escaping
This is the land where the Pharaoh died

The Negroes in the forest brightly feathered
They are saying, "Forget the night.
Live with us in forests of azure.
Out here on the perimeter there are no stars
Out here we is stoned - immaculate."

Listen to this, and I'll tell you 'bout the heartache
I'll tell you 'bout the heartache and the loss of God
I'll tell you 'bout the hopeless night
The meager food for souls forgot
I'll tell you 'bout the maiden with raw iron soul

I'll tell you this
No eternal reward will forgive us now for wasting the dawn

I'll tell you 'bout Texas Radio and the Big Beat
Soft drivin', slow and mad, like some new language

Now, listen to this, and I'll tell you 'bout the Texas
I'll tell you 'bout the Texas Radio
I'll tell you 'bout the hopeless night
Wandering the Western dream
Tell you 'bout the maiden with raw iron soul
