Unfettered

I have lately become friends with an Unfettered. I am somewhat amazed at this, considering how introverted all of the Unfettered I've ever heard about were. I guess he's one of the more chatty ones.
His name is Agdy. To my amazement, he originally came from the Plains of Ra. I hadn't thought about it before, but if asked, I would have guessed that
no Ramen had ever left the Plains and the Ranyhyn to study at the Loresraat. But now we know at least one did. He wasn't an outcast, by any means, but he certainly didn't fit in with the Ramen. And his connection to the Earthpower was too obvious for the Ramen to ignore.
Unfortunately, it is not easy for a lone member of the Ramen to live within any other culture. He tried, but, between the incomprehensibility of this new way of life, the loss of the Plains, and the usual Unfettered problem of being called in a way that the studiers of Kevin's Lore could not help with, he had to leave them.
The way the Earthpower reveals itself to Agdy is with the weather. I think that's
fascinating! I can't wait to learn more about it. As always, I love learning about the nature of Power, and each of the Unfettered offer a different view.

I speak with the Dreamer. I don't know where he comes from, or who he used to be. I only know of who he is now, his life is in dreams. Were it that I could understand such things, I would find that glorious.

I think your Unfettered friend might have snuck an "Elena" and drank from the pond during the horserite of Kelenbhrabanal. That could've def made him different.
I too talk w/the Dreamer and he has sent me dreams--one was of Covenant paralized on a stone slab in a heavy-duty herbal wrap as his mind is sent back in time to the Close where he meets all the Old Lords, past Giants and Ranyhyn...

Furls Fire,
I'm with you! I can't figure out dreams!
My Unfettered friend says that he manipulates weather patterns with what he calls "little pushes." If there's a breeze, it sounds like his mind becomes a part of it, and then he gives it a little push. He is incapable of big pushes, just little ones. The amount that one push speeds up the breeze is impossible to notice. But he pushes again and again and again, until you can notice. Given enough time, he can change things considerably.
Going with the wind (or rain, or whatever weather he's working with at the moment) is the easiest. He can also fight it, slowing it down, but that takes much longer.
Either way, it's a slow, draining process. He doesn't change things on a whim, because he saves his strength for when it's really needed.
Just figured I'd keep you all updated.

Another update.
Agdy has been telling me how his ability began and developed. It began as nothing more than a joining with the storms. At first, he merely knew when one was coming, though he didn't know how he knew.
Then, he noticed that, moments before lightning struck, he could predict where. Initially, he even thought he was causing the strikes. But as he became more attuned, he understood what was happening.
Eventually, he was the storm! When a storm hit, Agdy lost himself. He would wake up when the storm was done, sometimes finding himself leagues from where he had been! His memories of these times were inhuman feelings of blowing, raining, flashing as lightning. Very odd memories, as though his voice was an ear-splitting explosion.
And he felt that he was HUGE! If you can imagine your body growing to the size of a mountain, or even a chain of mountains, knowing that every step you take might destroy people, and even whole villages, you'll get an idea.
Well, this went on for a year or so. It was a glorious thing for him. But then, he became aware that he was losing his oneness with the storms, and becoming more conscious of himself. He was still within the storm, but somehow removed. It wasn't his intent to become seperated in any way. He loved the total union. But it seemed that he was, somehow, being forced out.

Well, Agdy doesn't talk much, but I'm getting the story out of him, bit by bit.
At first, he thought some evil was at work, doing something to the weather, with his loss of oneness with the storms being a side-effect. After all, if the basic being of the storm was changed, then maybe his basic being could no longer be attuned to it. But in time, he came to realize that it was the Earthpower itself that was forcing him out. It took him a dozen or so storms to realize this.
Then it took another dozen to understand that the Earthpower wanted him to be aware of himself within the storm so that he could effect the storm. Quite a thing! Why the Earthpower wanted him to do such things was beyond his comprehension. Changing the natural order of things would not seem to be a good idea. But he knew what he knew. So he began to experiment.

Sounds like he could become one the
greatest Masters on Roke!

Oooohhh...must be careful when tampering with such things as the weather and the Earthpower. The balance must be preserved. He seems to know what he needs to do tho.
Master Windkey, eh, Danlo??

Ah yes, I've journeyed to Roke. Since the Immanent Grove and Woodenwold are, in their respective realities, points where planes of existence meet, it's a simple matter for a Forestal.

I would love to walk the Grove, and talk with the Patterner.
And I would love to walk in Garroting Deep or Morinmoss and sing with the Forestals and speak with the Unfettered that live there.
And I would love to run thru Andelain and dance with the Wraiths on the middle night of Spring

Yes, I remember Agdy's first several "experiments." I was not entirely pleased! The ecosystem that is me was upset a few times. In small areas, that is. I am, after all, huge, so no lasting damage was done. But still!!

I talked to Agdy, and he says he's sorry about that.
But he had a little smile on his face when he said it, so I'm not sure. Maybe he really is sorry, but thinks it's kind of funny anyway.

Well, my pursuits have become too far removed from the Lords of any age, so I have taken the Rites of Unfettering. I may not be the typical Unfettered, because I do not shun contact with others, so some might not understand how I can be one. Agdy is more typical. But the lore is the key, and the lore that I am developing is very individual, like that of the Healer, the Dreamer, and the other Unfettered that most are familiar with.

What is your calling, Han-shan?

It seems to be some kind of physical enhancement. I had no idea why I came here to Cold Mountain, all the way up in the northern-most reaches of the Westron Mountains, I was just drawn here.
The cold was not a great concern, as I can easily use the lore I know to keep myself warm. After all, I lived in some pretty cold places back when I was known as Odin on your Earth. So on mornings when I knew I would be out of my cave hunting for hours at a time, I would carve my runes, say the appropriate words, and be warm for the day.
But if I only expect to be out for a short time, I do not go through all that. I just use a bit of Kevin's Lore to heat up occasionally. Which was my plan several days ago. I had seen goat tracks below a certain ledge every day for several days, and had thought I knew when to expect it, or them. I thought I would be there for maybe as much as an hour, and so only planned to heat myself once or twice. But hunters must be patient, and the time slipped away without my noticing. Well, I suddenly realized that I had been standing motionless on that ledge for most of the afternoon - without heating myself once!
I have only just begun meditating, looking to understand what happened.
