Starts tonight here! This is the only show (besides close football games) where I actually pace the floor sometimes.

I thought last season was actually pretty good compared to the couple before that. Hope this one is as good :)

And it's nice to see Rack Bauer... I mean Agent Walker... back again :)

I thought Day 7 was crap, and stopped watching about 2/3 through. I have Day 8 on my DVR so I'll catch up eventually.

I thought Day 7 was 2nd best behind Day 5, my fav. This one started out slow until the 3rd hour when it got some juice

and a very surprising end to hour 4!

I watched the two day premiere and was very impressed. I haven't kept up with this show. I've only seen the first two seasons on DVD, and a little bit of season 3. I assume I'm spoiling myself for Days 3-7 by watching this one, right? Seeing who is still alive, etc.?

No, I don't think it'd be a problem; each day is pretty much of it's own, but there are character deaths just about each Day and even character emotional change somewhat with Jack as the seasons progress beyond Day 5, but I don't think you'd be spoiling anything for the earlier Days if you watch this one now. Jack is more hard ass in the earlier days; he still is now, but I think he ponders for a few seconds more before he slams someones head into the cement.

Besides, some people who die turn up again later :)

Whatever you do, watch season 5. It's amazing.

I'm enjoying Day 8. I thought the first "chapter" was excellent (basically the intro arc that lasted 4(?) weeks). I liked the direction second "chapter," took things. But now it almost seems to be moving too fast. The nuclear rods are changing hands and location every episode. I expected the writers to drag out the interrogation of Jack a little longer, but that collapsed in one episode along with the capture of the bad guy. Now bad guys are dropping left and right. Chances for tension are being overlooked for a faster pace. I hope they have enough story here to keep it going, and settle back down to pace where we can get to know the characters more. They just introduced about 12 new bad guys (okay, most are "henchmen"). I hope we learn a bit more about them before Jack kills them all single-handedly and the rods change hands once again. :)

Anyway, like I said, I'm enjoying it. And I think we'll start renting Day 5, due to Lore's recommendation. Is that one self-contained enough to jump right in?

The first two episodes deal with one of the previous presidents - David Palmer - but that's the only referential element, and it's handled cleverly.

Most of the days are self-contained seasons, but there will be some references to past events. Nothing that would keep you from understanding the current season I think, just references in passing usually.

I have recorded the last 3 eps, but haven't watched them yet. First season I haven't been gluded to for a few seasons. How is this one going?

Last night's episode was the best so far. It's definitely getting better--and that's saying a lot because every episode has me glued to my seat. Very tense, dramatic storytelling here. Not a wasted second. Every episode leaves Ki and I wanting more, like another great chapter in a book you can't put down.

This was a great season. Epic. And it was the end of the entire series. I like where Jack ended up. Resolution of the story without a pretty bow to wrap it all up in a neat package. It's an end that suggests a new stage in his life, where we can imagine lots of other adventures which are radically different from his time at CTU (possibly movies?).

I agree!
Awesome ending and I say that as one that hates how most series end.

Just knowing how badass this show is left me hanging until the the last minute.

I've just picked up the first disc of Day 3, where I left off years ago. Compared to Day 8, it has a very slow start. The side plot with his daughter working at CTU and her boyfriend--or the married couple who are just below Jack's rank--were not nearly as interesting as the side plots of Day 8. Very soap opera. Not much tension. And the main plot with the virus (in order to free one criminal) is much less epic than the struggle between USA/Russia/Nameless M.E. country.

However, after the fourth episode, it has picked up the pace and is starting to get interesting. We watched 4 in one night and I'm looking forward to the next disc.
