How old were you when you first read TCOTC?

First time poster here. AWESOME website. I never knew this was here until I stumbled onto it last night. Anyway, I was 20 when I first stumbled into the Land. I remember getting the boxed hardback set (which I still have - pretty ratty, but intact) and reading the whoe set over a weekend. Didn't do anything but read, eat, take potty breaks and sleep the whole weekend. It was an exilarating, heady experience that left me breathless and wanting more.

So how about everyone else?

BTW, welcome GOLFNERD. I found and absorbed COTC when I was 15. A sophomore in High School. I was instantly hooked and those books and the subsequent sequels remain my favorite stories. :-)

I'm pretty sure I was either seventeen or sixteen. I read a bit of Lord Foul's Bane, forgot about it over the summer, and then picked it back up and got interested again.

18 for me...just over a year ago I was handed the book that would change my life forever (meaning it raised my expectations of fantasy novels about 1000 levels :-D )

I was 16, back in 1978. I read the Second Chronicles as they came out in the 80's.

I started them in spring 1982, when I was 18, and continued with the Second Chrons. as they appeared later in my undergrad years. I majored in bio and used to go around saying biochemical terms in (what I imagined to be) a Haruchai accent... :screwy:

Hail all newbies! Be welcome and true!

I first read the Chrons when I was 11. I'd just finished primary school, and just finished reading Lord of the Rings. The blurb on the cover said 'Comparable to Tolkien at his best', so I picked it up, and have been hooked on SRD ever since.
I re-read them again when I was 17/18, and I'm 27 now, and about to read them a third time before Runes is released. Looking forward to it!

11? Wow... I only barely got all of it at 13, I'd probably still miss huge bits if I read them again now...

I was 12. My dad had bought as they came out. I was going through his books and decided to read them. Now I've read them close to 10 times. SRD is probably my favorite author.

BUMP!

For the newbies. :D

There was an older, more complete version of this thread, but I couldn't find it. :x I guess this one will do.

I recieved the Chroicles of Thomas Covenant, the Unbeliever from my father for my 12th birthday, and finished them in a month. Looking back now, I realize how wierd I was/am.

Welcome GOLFNERD!

I was 13 when I tried the first time, but couldn't handle it (13 year olds were a lot different 20 years ago I am afraid). In 1989, I rediscovered the books. Wow!

I learn more about myslef every time I reread them. (4 times).

I remember the boy I was. Growing up in the city I was lured into fantasy novels by my seventh grade teacher. TH White's "The Once and Future King" was the book assignment.

From there I walked to the small white-tiled book store about two blocks from the apartment buildings where I lived. My brother bought the C.S. Lewis books of Narnia. I remember looking at the different covers of Lord Fouls Bane, The Illearth war and The Power that Preserves. Many people do not like Darryl K Sweet's artwork but it captivated me. The words praising the book and the snippets teasing me to what literary depths lay in store for me bound me. I bought all three books the summer of 1982. I was 12 years old.

Since then I have read them twice, i'm going on my third time now. Things happen for a reason, who would have thought the last chronicles would be starting this next fall.

Looks like I'll be biting my nails waiting like I did back when for White Gold Wielder. Once a nerd...
