My friend recently picked up a book detailing the background, people and lands of Stephen King's "Dark Tower" series, which name-checks the literary and historical influences used in the novels. However, TCTC is not mentioned, but I found the following which seem to be more than coincidence to me.....

Hile - means the same as "hail", or "well-met".

Tull and Sill (I think these are Bloodguard names) - one is a location, the other I can't remember....

Also the Gunslinger character loses the last two fingers on his right hand when fighting some mutant lobsters on a beach....

Any other influences to be found in modern literature?

And, yes, TULL (I believe, as well) is the name of one of the Guards. Off the top of my head, can't remember which chapter he first appears, but pretty sure, it's the first book.

Actually, SRD knows about King's references in The Dark Tower. King references alot of different tales and characters in this series, mostly his own. In the revised edition of The Gunslinger, King makes a special acknowledgement to SRD and TCTC.

There's a topic somewhere around here that shows similarities/"borrowing" of SRD's stuff in George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire like: The Nightwatch's Quorin Halfhand, The Fist of the First Men (Bareisle/Colossus) and "The Citadel towered over the city like a giant's Drommond"..from the upcoming A Feast for Crows...other stuff to if you search hard enuf for them...
