Not care. Then sleep.

Resign myself to the fact that I'll be loopy from lack of sleep the next day.
Also: try moving your tongue down so that it's not touching the roof of your mouth in the back, and keep it down. Sometimes that little teeny bit of muscle relaxation is enough to send me off to sleep.

Yeah, I got that, just that stuff makes me a fat insomniac.

I figure my body knows it'll eventually need sleep; if not in bed at night, maybe the next day in traffic or at work.

*getting professional head on*
Top tips....
-Stop drinking caffeine after 1pm (this used to be further down list, but the number of people who don't know why they can't sleep after drinking coffee all day, is astounding! So now it's first. Saves alot of time

Caffeine's half-life is 5 hours, so a cup of coffee at 4pm is the same as half a cup of coffee at 9pm. People vary though, and things like liver function or being on contraceptive pill can extend the halflife alot!)
-Keep bed for sleeping. If you read or watch tv before bed, do it in a different room and when you go to bed, go to bed for sleeping.
-Physical exercise -get yourself tired! Go for a walk or something in the evening.
-If you can't sleep quickly, don't lie there fretting about it. Get up, go into a different room and read or watch something boring for 15 minutes, then go back to bed.
-Think boring thoughts to distract you from stressful thoughts. Try and remember a list of something, like which cds you have (unless music gets you excited! This one's not for me) or what's in your food cupboard.
-Lavender aroma in bedroom helps some people.
-Get up and go to bed around the same time every day. Don't nap during day.
-Look at bedroom environment. Do you need a new mattress, is temperature right, does partner snore etc? Sort out problem.
There's more, but this'll sort out 99% of people without medical reasons for insomnia.

Fine, I'll get off the pill. But if I end up preggers, you're paying the child support.

In this neighborhood? I'll be taking a dirt-nap!

Then I'll want to get up and eat something, which is the wrong direction, I think.

Lavender is a color. Colors don't smell. Also, you can't see color when it's dark.

Damn, lorin, those
croyel creeps are everywhere these days!
And thanks for the tips, Stone. I don't
think I suffer from insomnia, but those are excellent tips all the same. I follow most of them, except the lavender aroma part. I do sometimes foolishly drink coffee at 4 or 5 pm, but thankfully it's not an everyday habit. (In my defense, I only drink a small cup at a time. What scares me are the super-sized Starbucks coffees that I see people regularly consuming.)

Well, for me Cag's Method works best with a computer and a fast internet connection. Which it usually is at 2:00 in the morning.

I get a natural lavender oil linen spray from the earthy crunchy natural foods shop on Judah and 46th in SF and it's fabulous. Only problem is it wears off quick so doesn't help with the wee hour wakeups. Plus, I live in the Tenderloin in SF so walks at that hour would probably get me arrested for prostitution no matter what I was wearing.
