No, but this article about it made me laugh.

This movie was a complete waste and I feel that it offends ALL Twilight Fans around the world, that including myself. For one, it was a COMPLETE remakingof the Wolf Pack from the Twilight Saga: New Moon.

I'll add a briefer one:

I've seen the film twice now (the second time was only because I'd been invited by a group of girls, and didn't want to seem rude by turning them down; plus I had enjoyed it the first time). The second time made me really aware of just how unexceptional an addition this is to the werewolf movie genre. Which is not to say the film is bad, because it isn't. There's a lot to recommend - the cast, the sets, the gore, the effects etc. However, there is nothing that happens in this film that is in the least surprising. Every jolt and plot twist is utterly familiar.

The use of Weaving as Abberline was interesting though, besides one line of dialogue, there appears to be absolutely no point at all to the Ripper link.

However, the main problem with the film is that there is almost no build-up, and simply too much action. Indeed, compared to the attack on the Gypsy camp, or the rampage in London, the climax is a complete non-event. The film's overdone score, and larger than life look detracts from the human element, which consequently makes the romance angle and the tragic finale (for one character) rather unimpactful.

That said, the film is entertaining, but not at all surprising, fresh, or challenging. The highlight of the film has to be the rather referential (to American Werewolf in London) traffic accident in London.

Reminds me of the time I read some kid's review of Dragonslayer. He was incensed and wrote that: "Dragonslayer is rubbish and spits on the proud tradition of films like LoTR". I'm not quite sure how a film made 20 years earlier can spit on the tradition of a movie not yet made . . . Anyway, some people really need basic research skills before they go on some tweenie rant.

I know it'd very dated but I really liked Nicholson's Wolf, however I've yet to see An American Werewolf in London. Despite having two of my favorite actors in it I have absolutely no desire to see this.

Well, I did want to see this until this thread. I'll wait for the DVD. American WW in London is great! Might be dated (80's) by now, but there was humor and tragedy and I recall really enjoying the movie. The origional with Lon Chaney Jr is the most atmospheric and saddest (in a good way) of WW movies I've seen.

Maybe they were referring to this version.

The other question is how "films like LotR" can be said to have a "proud tradition".

No, defintely not. They even referred to Peter Jackson throughout.

A good review i thought. I saw this tonight and thought Del Toro's performance, as a grieving brother (and grim Lon Chaney stand in, who was deadpan at the best of times) was excellent. His "doomed from the outset", monotone vibe fitted the gloomy gothic styles like a dusty white glove. Was surprised they could actually make the wolfman style werewolf believable and brutal. Insane asylum scenes were awesome (Dr Hiedeger, haha!) Campy werewolf fight was av. Disembowelments for the win. Sure its not great (despite top performances from Weaving and Hopkins), but the original was never high art in the first place. A good ride.
