Today I went to dinner at a great restaurant in Manhattan for , are you ready for this.......2 dollars!!!!

I thought this was a hoax but it is legit.

Go to restaurant.com. There are thousands and thousands of restaurants all over the country. You buy a 25 dollar meal coupon priced at 10 dollars BUT right now they are having a sale on the certificates. Type in the word MEAL in the promo box and they are only two dollars each. All you pay is the gratuity.

I truly thought this was fake but it isnt. I just bought 25 meal certificates for 50 dollars, some in Florida for my father, and a bunch for nyc, seattle, jersey and california.

I checked with the restaurant before I was seated and they do take them. I am not sure how long the sale will last.

Coolness! Off to see if it works for me...

It is working for me, but I only see one restaurant we are interested in trying for the conditions required to use the certificate, and I don't have a printer here at home. Do you have to print out the certificate immediately upon purchase? If so, I'll need to go to the library before ordering.

I bought the $100 on for 8 bucks and took some staff out for lunch last week.

SUGGESTION - when there is a sale buy some gift cards and hang on to them Its better than buying specific restaurant certificates and they don't expire. Then when you feel like going out, go on line and use the certificate.

I would like to remind anyone considering buying them that if you have a upromise.com account to go through them for the college savings.

I have also just heard that ebates.com offers 15% cash back if you go to restaurant.com through them. I've never used them, but if you don't have a upromise account you may want to check them out instead.

~lyr, set up an account with upromise.com for your coming attraction, if you haven't already, before buying the certificates. Then access restaurant.com through upromise.com. I love getting the credit for buying things I normally would anyway. Free money for college education is free money, even if it adds up slowly.

I can email an invite if you wish, but I think you can set up an account without the invite as well.

After looking into it, our restaurant requires a $50 purchase, and the way I read it you can only use one certificate at a time. Thus the awesome meal would cost $27 for a $50 meal ($2 for the certificate, plus $25 cash). . . still good, but out of our budget at this time.

Two things to keep in mind, ~lyr, if I am reading the way restaurant.com works correctly...

First, the restaurant.com specific restaurant certificates are good for a year from the time you purchase them. So if this restaurant is a place you would use for a special occasion, and can then justify spending the $27 (plus gratuity on the original total is usually added automatically as well), it may be worth buying and letting sit. If you never get around to using it, well, then you're only out $2.

Second, I believe lorin said the general restaurant.com gift certificates never expire. So, you could buy one of those, and then print it out for the restaurant you use when y'all are ready, whether over a year from now, or if y'all need to travel out of town, use it for a place wherever you go to.

Of course, if I am misreading this, it is all moot. But, they are something to consider...

Also, different restaurants have different rules. Gotta check the fine print. But at these prices, it's worth it.
