You could not make this up.

I think my favorite part of the story is that the statue was insured. So much for trusting in God, huh?

Reaching for heaven
Sometimes heaven reaches back
Smites with a vengeance
This graven image
Was a target for lightning
With its outstretched arms
Take a hint, pastor
Do not rebuild this statue
Spend funds on good works

Sheesh, that flaming picture looks like a bat-demon escaping hell or something! Ironic?
The original statue didn't look all the good to me, either. Kinda showy. Now, if it was made of jade...!

And if a priest with missing hands had come by and....
The whole thing's ironic, if you think about the admonition against "graven idols".
Magickmaker and I were discussing this last night. We're not sure whether it was God on High who finally said, "Okay, that's enough," and sent the zapper down -- or whether Zeus and Odin have been arguing for the past X years over who would get to throw the lightning bolt and just finally decided to do it together.

I must admit when God decides to take out bad art he does it with a bang (pardon the pun).

Wait a second: Were this statue and the BP clean-up boat BOTH struck by lightning and burned on the same day?
That has to be a message.

Oooooh....
So what message can we take from this? God doesn't like graven idols *or* BP?

Do we know anyone in that picture, Cag?

I do.
Sshhhhhh....it's members of another forum. It is my wife forum to which Kevin's Watch is my mistress. But to be honest, I've kinda left this wife for my mistress. I spend considerably more time here than I do there, and I'm a mod here and not there, so...I guess...which is the wife and which is the mistress now? But I have met two of the three pictured.

Even God couldn't suffer that horrible looking statue.

Gives new meaning to going down in a blaze of Glory.
Gimme a Hallelujah!

As you wish, Wayfriend...

There's a blaze of light

It doesn't matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Serves 'em right for making it out of fibreglass and foam. Not materials I associated with
statues really. Marble, granite, bronze, yes. Fibreglass and foam? Not so much.

... until you remember that the people in the picture are assuredly going to Hell.

Entirely possible, but not for what they are doing in the picture. If they are friends of Cag and Carla, they assuredly have more compelling trespasses to be shriven than merely posing for that photo!
