We're going to assume his family did not get his pension--the Empire is probably pretty strict about panicky idiots winning the war for the other team.

If any of you think the aforementioned event was an accident you just aren't reading between the lines. Clearly Obi Wan lied about...I mean clearly Vader realized that the pilot he was pursuing, and comments "The Force is strong in this one", is his one and only son and at the last minute uses the Force to push his wing man into himself thus saving face for not killing his boy and allowing the Rebels to destroy the Death Star.

Wow. It couldn't be more obvious and I knew this 10 years before the film even premiered. Yeesh!.
