Who paid the bill?

In the beginning of TCTC, TC is drawn into town because somebody paid his utility bill. Presumably, the bill was paid to keep TC out of town, which predictably had the opposite effect; that is, making him come into town. Thusly, it's possible that somebody piad the bill in order to get TC to come to town. Now, why would somebody do that? Why, to meet TC, of course. And who wanted to meet TC? The Creator. Therefore, I believe the Creator paid TC's utility bill. Any dissenters out there?

No, Covenant didn't know the bill was paid until the clerk at the counter told him it was. He decided to go to town to pay it in person because of all the other black charity events that had happened...the groceries being delivered and so forth. To keep him out.

You mean the Creator paid those bills, too?

grrrrrr..that was me before.
LOL!! noooo...he didn't pay any of them. It was the citizens of Town Nasty that paid them to keep him out.
Personally..I always thought it was the horrible Sherriff Lytton that paid them.

I think it was definitely the good citizens of Town Nasty.
In his darkness, Covenant shrugged. "I still wasn't free. That singer -who called me Berek. That revival. The kid who got herself snakebit. Maybe you left me free in the Land, but you didn't leave me alone in my own life."
"No," the voice responded softly. "I had no hand in those chances. Had I done anything at all to shape you, you would have been my tool-effectless. Without freedom, you could not have mastered my enemy-without independence-without the sovereignty of your own allegiance. No, I risked too much when I spoke to you once. I interfered in no other way."
I think he couldn't interfere any more than he did.

I had actually thought about this in a similar way at one time. I finally concluded that the bill had been paid by the townspeople. A more interesting question is: Did TC have his phone bill with him in his pocket during his adventures in the Land? Hmmmm......

I don't know, but for sure he had a wallet? Creditcard? So what happened to those?

Not to mention "The Fundemental Question of Ethics"..he stuffed that in his pockets too. I always wondered what Mhoram would have said about that, had Covenant showed it to him or told him about it....

i dont think his bills were paid to be nice to him <is a cynic to the core

lol
whoever it was .. wanted TC isolated and not IN the town .. walking among the townsfolk with his dirty disease
from TC's description of these things .. most people were happy not to ever see him or deal with him.
very cruel imho ..

I'm beginning to think that perhaps Covenants Grandma may be Lord Foul. Hmm...

Well, I still think the Creator paid the bill. In fact,I believe he had just exited the building that Covenant was going to, having paid another couple months worth. That would explain why they met right outside the building, or within a couple of blocks of it, or whatever.

Excellent point Md. I hadn't really thought of that until you came to my desk a few minutes ago and brought it up. Hmmm...

I'm really surprised nobody thinks Bill Gates paid the bill. It seems so unlikely, I'm sure somebody would have picked him!:screwy:

Are you afraid it might hurt his feelings?
