I feel a little silly doing this, but I've recently completed my first novel, and since Donaldson has impacted both my life and my writing in myriad ways, I thought maybe someone here would be interested in it.

It's called "Pulse" (no, not like that horrible sci-fi movie), and it's about the interconnectedness of all things, particularly life and death. In the universe of "Pulse," maintaining interconnectedness depends on responsibility and cooperation. Connections can be exploited or corrupted—or broken, of course. Fortunately, they can also be repaired.

I've plugged my own fiction here, and feel not the slightest bit guilty.
If you are as inspired by Donaldson as I am, I'm sure I would enjoy your work.
I've already bought another watcher's fiction, although I have yet to read it-- too involved in re-reading and re-discovering TCTC right now.
I will be doing a lot more reading and writing in years to come. I have not read a single book, cover to cover for twelve years or longer up to this point, and I am now halfway through "the wounded land."

It's less guilt, and more inadequacy--I've always been taught that a work ceases to be fully yours when it leaves your hands, and so it should be able to stand on its own before that happens.

Unfortunately, no one's going to buy a book just because it's out there. Promoting becomes necessary. Otherwise, no one will know it exists. I get that, but I still don't like impinging on the time, resources and attention of other people. Even for my novel, which I love down to my very core. I feel, kind of irrationally, that a work, any work, has more power when it's approached independently of prodding or bias. A practical application of "the necessity of freedom," you might say.

Thanks for the reply. I've read some of the Kevin's Watch compilation books before, so maybe I'll check out some of your work as well. I finished AATE three days ago (I read fast--Auleliel was mad at me for a while because I kept wanting to spoil the plot), and reread the Gap and Covenant beforehand, so I'm all caught up on reading, at least for now.

So, monopolists destroy the world, and the good people are caught in the middle...that's a pretty bleak (read: ultimately realistic) view of the future. I shall look at the poetry description more closely later (I saw T.S. Eliot in there); I always need good books to read.

I'll allow you to condense the book, since I shamelessly plugged on top of your plug as if it were an electrical outlet. You're pretty accurate anyway (aside from the giant, Chinese-piloted robots with ankle-turrets or the LSD-style trips!).

But yes, fantastic work! Glad you're pleased with it. Novels can be tricky beasts to skewer but highly, but even an unfinished one can be more than helpful in honing one's skill (thank you, high-school novel floating in oblivion).
