I was looking up some info on the Covenant movie and stumbled upon this board. I have loved the Covenant series since I was a young boy. I actually bought the original trilogy as it came out, so that tells you how old I am

A year ago, my wife and daughters were harping on how good the Twilight books were, and naturally, I told them that if they wanted to know what good writing looked like, there was an old series that I read when I was young called the Thomas Covenant series. With the power of Amazon at my fingertips, I found both trilogies bound together in two books, and ordered it. While waiting on my books to arrive, I visited Wikipedia to refresh my memory on who was who in the series and discovered that Mr. Donaldson had written the first two of the last series already and the third was due out shortly after. Needless to say, I squealed like a little girl  and bought them both from Barnes and Noble. I devoured them all in a few short weeks, often staying up until 1 or 2 in the morning "just to read one more chapter". I now own, and have read AATE, and am rather bitter about having to wait 2 years for the last one

I will say that all of the cursing in Fatal Revenant was a bit of a put-off, but I get that Roger needed to be shown as someone who didn't give a rip about anyone or anything.

Well, now that I've said hi... I'll explore the forum!

My complaint too.
SRD draws upon such a rich vocabulary too.
Reading "f#ck" and "sh#t" in the Chronicles is really disappointing.

Welcome, Bill.

Y'know, I haven't been put off by the additional "language." I always had a harder time swallowing "hellfire and bloody damnation" over more normal curses. Now it feels a bit more natural to me.

Welcome Bill the Cat. I'm not really a proper one to welcome any body since I tend to disappear from here for stretches of time . But I too read the first chronicles as a much younger person,,and have been a fan of Donaldson's work ever since. " What good writing looked like" is spot on. IMHO Donaldson is a Master of the English language. So, when he dropped the F bomb and other vulgarities, I took that as within character of who said it. Roger is a vulgarity. The utterance of such was a big clue to the mystery of TC and Jerry in FR. The language used, itself was a clue. Yes it was totally out of place in The Land. But that was the point, the clue. Like I said, Masterful.

Any way, cool avatar you have and ..welcome. Jump in to the crock pot and enjoy the stew!

I really liked Covenant's Lawyer saying"Shit Linden" and several other Euphamisms in Runes, but, yea, it got carried away in the story in the Land in FR, IMHO.

Lurch raises a good point, and one that I totally missed on my first read, and first listen (Audio Book version), so bassically my first two readings
