I'm a 'two spaces after a fullstop' person. Like this. Apparently this is incorrect. What do you do?

I do it like that and my Spell/grammar check agrees. Thats how i learnt it in my touch typing class, way back when.
Who says its not correct?

There is a reason html formatting automatically removes multiple spaces (like in your post

).
Single space is the typographical standard. Double space was introduced for typewriters with monospaced fonts that were difficult to read.

I was taught to double space at school, but I'd forgotten all about it until just now.

Typographers are lazy and cheap by nature. I have always used, and will continue to use, double spacing. I learned how to type on a manual typewriter, though, and my 'keyboarding' teacher in high school was older than dirt, even if the typewriters we used were electric. And since APA and MLA say double spacing is fine, I'm sticking with it.

Single space. Many modern publications companies won't accept your work if you use double space.

They're stupid, then. Two spaces for me.

I was writing a reply that I was taught one space at the end of sentences, two after a colon. But as I wrote it, I found myself double spacing after a sentence. So, two for me as well.

Yup, two after a colon as well.

Two spaces. This is reinforced on the Blackberry: as soon as you hit <space><space> Blackberry will auto-edit by inserting a period. So, it assumes that is what you wanted to do, and tries to save you a <shift>.

two spaces! since when was it only one (except when Mr Seareach is typing and I even had a go at him the other day and told him he was doing it wrong...coz there's no way that *I* have been doing it wrong!!

)
The world as I have known it has suddenly come to an end!

Two spaces is presumably a common enough mis-practice that my university's style sheet specifically instructs us not to do it, if I recall correctly.

That's interesting...H.S. typing taught double space, when I took a class on WordPerfect in 91, the text had a "learn to type" section saying double space. Now I have to retrain my fingers [and look up if colon still is double space].

The article makes a fair point about people just teaching what they're accustomed to. When I was taught double spacing, it must have been somewhere around 1994-5. If the article is right, this habit was already badly out of date by then, but we were taught all our IT stuff by people in their 50s.

When typing up assignments, grammar and spell check on Word would always highlight one space after . as an error. Im not changing because modern techno dweebs say so.
Pffffft.

well I'll be horn swaddled! Word has never highlighted my double space after a full stop as an error. And I've never seen it noted in any style manual. I learned typing from Yr 7 at high school (so that'd be 1986) and that's what we were taught.
...and now my whole life has been shattered. I type at about 90wpm and having to think about it and only put one space after a full stop is going to do my head in...
