When they camp out with the Ranyhyn, this passes:
“How close are we to the Sarangrave? Are we in danger?”
Why had Narunal and Hynyn whinnied so urgently during the day, when there were no caesures?
Without hesitation, Stave answered, “I estimate the distance at less than a league. However, the Flat’s proximity poses scant peril. In this region, the wetland is extensive but shallow, little more than a marsh sporadically snared with quagmires. The lurker prefers the deeper mire within the heart of the Sarangrave, and in Lifeswallower. Its vast bulk and ferocity require more noisome waters.
Yet that very night, Linden uses the staff to repulse her friends and run strait to the lurker. The water was evidently deep enough to cause waves high enough to strike the chests of the giants.
Little confused-- please help?

Stave was wrong.

No, I see it as the ongoing theme in AATE.
Things change.
The Lurker is thinking outside the box when faced with it's doom.
The Haruchai haven't done so yet.

That's good and well, but it might have been easier on me had Donaldson himself explained that little nagging inconsistency in the book itself.

HLT (LMAO! Great idea for a T-Shirt!!!)--yes I agree with all your points--have you finished the book LZ?
Spoiler
Then you might know why the Lurker is being forced to "think outside the box", as it were...it, sort of, comes back around
