I conducted an experiment

on a different site to see if we're tolerant / intolerant at KW. I managed to get banned in the space of 2 days for not doing too much wrong - and with very little dialogue/discussion.

Although there's been quite a few private conversations here about banning you, I guess we've been more tolerant than those folks.

From my very limited experience of other forums, there seems to be a high proportion of personal abuse - especially technology type sites. I'm not sure if people get banned more easily, but I'd say KW is quite tolerable. And also the members are, generally speaking, more polite and respectful.

I'm an active member of several forums, and have become inactive on many more. Kevin' Watch is the most tolerant by far (with the exception of Tower of the Sun, but there are only about ten members there, so banning is pretty much unheard of).

If you got banned from a Terry Brooks site then don't worry about it.

I reckon he copied and pasted some recent Gen Dis posts that didn't get anyone banned here. :P

heheheeee...I experienced similar rough handling at a " official" LOST website years ago..Didn't swear or curse, no sex talk,,no abusive language..but when it came to talking about LOST..a moderator who had absolutely no idea what I was talking about , decided to " bully" me around for not kowtowing and wearing the robes and lighting the candles in worship of the " decided upon" by the High Lords of Lostdom. By simply embarrassing him for entering into discussion on which he knew nothing about,,I got banned. Funny it is..or was..that by 4th season of LOST..this " official" Lost website was no longer visited by Lost actors and writers,,and by 6th season..was a ghost town.

I'm driving under a warning flag myself on a bass player site for suggesting that some dude (who told me all left-handed people should be forced to learn on right-handed instruments ) that he might find the air is fresher if he were to extricate his head from his ass. One would think people would appreciate such sage advise, but I guess some prefer the warmth of their own rectum.

You had to conduct experiments to determine that we're better than other boards? I coulda told you that. ;)

It was one of those Q&A sites - where apparently the questions you ask and the answers you give had to be of some ill-defined standard. Apparently none of my questions or answers made the grade :) Their mods must be the same bunch as those bass players

null - we took you back though :)

I think I accidentally had a near ban experience when I started here, but I was never very sure. There was definitely some cold shouldering from a couple at some point.

With that said, I have participated at a few forums. This one is typically pretty tolerant. I used to think the Douglas Adams one was especially lenient, but I was proven wrong at some point when a political debate erupted into name calling and people crapping all over each other. And apparently I rubbed one member wrong when I met her in person, and I think she has been sabotaging my name since, so I've slowed way down in going to it, which is a pity as I have been pretty friendly with several people there for years, and I think a couple of the old timers had their minds changed by this harpy.
Meanwhile, I have been playing around on the Pogues official forum of which a few band members show up with some regularity, and I've seen at least one poster getting away with insulting band members to their face and still not get banned. Which seems strange behavior for a supposed fan on a fan site.
I've only been banned once, and that was for discussing politics on a site that didn't want to hear about it.

i left the dc comics board for a few years - until they reformatted.

it was really bad anytime i ventured away from the jsa boards - older fans were cool. :)

but some of the other boards had members openly insulting the comic creators.

i remember Ostrander taken a lot of abuse.

You were banned??? Or is that a joke?

Ostrander is an excellent writer.
