Couldn't find a thread, so I'll make one! This will be useful for someone to ask for suggestions in specific music genres they'd like to listen to more but don't have the know-how to find the good stuff they desperately want! People who know better could then make "suggestions."

I have an interest in listening to some Jazz and some Rhythm & Blues. I tend to like pieces were a lot of stuff is going on and sometimes, that have build-up (an example of what I mean by "build-up" would be like "Stairway to Heaven" and "Part 2" of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond".

Any help would be appreciated.

What exactly do you mean by stuff building up? If someone mentions jazz to me, with a lot of stuff going on, I immediately recommend The Mahavishnu Orchestra, Return to Forever and Weather Report. So I guess it depends on the individual song. For The Mahavishnu Orchestra I guess I wouldn't recommend Noon Ward Race as it starts up about a subtly as Yes' Relayer LOL. They are an intense group, for your criteria I'd suggest:
One Word
You Know You Know
Birds of Fire
and Smile of the Beyond

For Weather Report Nubian Sundance and almost anything on Heavy Weather. For Return to Forever start with their most popular album, Romantic Warrior and branch out from there. (these groups are more jazz/fusion than pure jazz)

My taste in all genres tends to veer towards the avant-garde, but it's not a requirement. Just don't hesitate to suggest "weird" music, it's what I love.

What type of Jazz are you talking about? There are a bunch of sub-genres:Classic Jazz, Bebop, Ragtime, Hot, Cool, Swing, Vocalese, Fusion, Experimental, Smooth, etc...

(actually Orlion scratch Birds of Fire just listened to it-way too intense)

I really don't mind, since my understanding of the sub-genres is vague. As I said, my tastes lean more towards the experimental, but I'll listen to anything you care to recommend. Electronic music or techno also has too many sub-genres to count.
