Is there a God?

I realise this might be a sensitive issue to some people, but I want this topic to be an educational, mature discussion. Where people talk about what their beliefs are. Not arguing. Everyone is intitled to there own beliefs, and to express those beliefs without being criticized.

I don't think there is, because there are no facts. And look how many Gods there are. They can't all be real. And if there is, why doesn't he come down from heaven like he did many times in the Old and New Testament?

Its just a question of personal faith. Not too complicated in my case and a very easy question for me to answer thats all. :D

No. God is a personification given to the Tao that flows through all things.

I'm leaning toward yes. Nearly every culture that has ever existed on earth has a form of divinity. Some areas of the brain, which have their own unique strands of DNA, are only stimulated by religious experiences.

There certainly are many gods but many have the same ideals ascribed to them suggesting they are one in the same just with different names.

The problem is there are no facts to prove their is a god but also no facts to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that there isn't one either.

The history of the New Testament is very interesting. What's real and what is not? Jesus Christ has been mentioned in other ancient writings, such as Tacitus Suetonius and Josephus. Certainly, he was a true figure.

As a Christian, I believe in the Resurrection. I believe his death saved humanity. It is simply, as Cromas said, a matter of personal opinion. To tell you the truth, I don't want to debate with anyone on the existence or nonexistence of God, or a god.

You know, I'm going to feel out of place in this topic after seeing all those 'yes' answers...

Personally, I doubt it. In the past I have said an outright 'no', but I've been trying to look at it a little differently recently (although I guess it still amounts to 'no').
I do not believe in an afterlife, for reasons I don't really feel like going into detail about. I don't agree with any organised religion, organised worship, nor do I accept religious writings as anything other than something made by men.
I guess the only sense in which I think there might be something is in the what is it all about? sense - I don't really think there is a meaning of life, but all this must have come from somewhere - the universe didn't just suddenly spring up one day, nor do I think it could have existed indefinately - the concept of infinite time is hard for me to grasp in this sense, so I guess the only way I really think there is something else is in the creation sense - it had to begin somewhere, and something had to begin it.
Not really faith as such, but its the closest I can come.

Ditto...

To be honest, I don't really know what I think about all this (this being religion). I have a lot of problems with it and the bible. I want to have faith in something, I just have to figure out for myself what that is going to be.

I believe that if there were a God it would be obvious to people that there were and thus you would not have to believe in a God.

I see that this opens the door to the argument that it actually IS obvious, but it is not obvious to me. (Note that this is only according to my knowledge of accepted dogma. I refuse to completely discard the possibility that there actually "gods" but I do not believe that any such being(s) would conform to the current beliefs as I know them.)

I think that there is a God, but that Being is too vast for us to comprehend. I think most religions tend to compartmentalize this Being, try to cut Him (or Her or It, not sure what the proper nomenclature would be here) down to more understandable dimensions...

I just find it hard to believe that a being Powerful enough to create a Universe always existed.

My conclusion has become that god(s) are man made.

But hey, I could be wrong. :) But even if I am I don't believe we suffer afterward because puny beings like ourselves refused to believe in an arrogant god.

And I can't accept that my mind outlives my brain.
