The Federal Emergency Management Agency has approved a grant to help cover the costs of fighting a fire near Ruidoso Downs that has destroyed homes and outbuildings.
The fire that broke out Sunday afternoon quickly spread due to gusty winds, low humidity and extremely dry conditions in the Ruidoso area of southern New Mexico.
With high temperature and winds topping 70 MPH many residents of Ruidoso New Mexico had to be evacuated in this emergency yesterday-Lord Zombiac and family are among the evacuees-physically they are fine. He asked me to tell the Watch and, especially, sgt. null, (on facebook) that he will be comp-less for an undetermined period of time and that even his cell phone has become inoperable.

Wow, I never even noticed this thread, but then again I'd just taken too many psycho meds and tried to sleep in a church.
That's the closest to a forest fire I'd ever been, everything I owned was piled wrecklessly in my subaru with my dog, who spent 24 hours in there with only three lame walks.

The fire came as close as one range of mountains away. A twenty minute hike at most!

Too close for comfort LZ. Glad to see you seem to have come through it unscathed
