The Battle of Helm's Deep has to be a favourite - Gandalf leading the Rohirrim into the fray at dawn is a pivotal image.

I've never been able to read Lord of the Rings. The events that take place always expand beyond my capacity, and imagination, to understand what the story is about.
However, last night I dreamt of The Hornburg - an image of metal helmets as thick as baked beans in a pot - and it seemed to me that a mechanism was at work. A broad network of finely tuned wheels just below the surface.

I'm sure this makes some sense (considering dreams don't lie), as the Tower of Orthanc happens to be the epitomy of Industrial Revolution, and the systematic fingerprint of human ecological erosion.
