I will loan you the $1,800, you will then pay it back in weekly installments of $100 over the next year. Or I will break your legs.

Extending the conversation from
another thread...where someone LZ will meet in less than a month *might* say:
We've known each other many years, but this is the first time you ever came to me for counsel or for help. I can't remember the last time that you invited me to your house for a cup of coffee, even though my wife is godmother to your only child. But let's be frank here. You never wanted my friendship. And, uh, you were afraid to be in my debt.

My friend david is trying to get me the money anyway, cause he owes my family. He said make sure I get a mechanic to check out the vehicle.

Unfortunately Sarge, you would be hobbled right out of the gate.

It sure does; it makes me regret ever buying a bass and amp.

The trouble I always find with vehicles is that the buying of them is the easy bit (and that's hard enough!) The problem comes in the expense of keeping them on the road (do you guys have MOT's, road tax, insurance etc. etc. - and thats even before the repairs kick in.) And the trouble is that every time you want to buy a car that means someone else wants shot of it - and the important question is why! And 4x4's are the worst of the lot! They are gas guzzlers that cost an arm and a leg to keep going.
My advice LZ is to find another way to 'the duke city' that doesn't involve a taking on of debt that could be just the beginning of a whole heap of financial layout! Maybe the bus might be a better solution.
